While it wouldn't shock me that JR would do something like this, it does smell fishy and I don't know how reliable Barstool is as a media source.

Most celebrity encounters in my life were very brief and rehearsed. The pro golfers have been the singular exception.

We literally let one of the best players of this generation who is playing on a contract less than half of similar players today sign with someone else for some still unknown reason. If we ghosted him to do it, that has ramifications for future player negotiations, but again that is only if it is actually true.
May 1, 2025May 1 Yea I agree it’s not inconsequential. I think a lot of us forget how JR literally engineered a NBA freeze out of his own team because of how he told MJ to take a walk. The stuff he does reverberates even more with him on the Sox because they don’t have any room for error, and we have seen that play out time and time again

He said it was the type of club he was working to play for. It was very important for him to play for a working class fanbase and a team that was young with a lot of talent. He might have been willing to take a bit of a paycut quite frankly if the offer had been respectable.

A fan favorite and a real leader. And Harper, especially if you listen to him, is pretty thoughtful about these kind of things. He wasn't just out there chasing the biggest paycheck. He wanted a place where he felt a genuine connection to and he felt that with the Sox.
