May 14, 2025May 14 Author Gowens throws six shutout innings. 2h, 1w, 3k. Grant Taylor comes in as reliever. Not sure if just to get work or something different.

May 14, 2025May 14 Gladney HR off Burns was the difference. Barons win 1-0. Overall offensive numbers for the Barons are ROUGH.
May 14, 2025May 14 1 IP out of the pen for Taylor. Gulp! I thought they'd give him multiple innings. This really looks like a transition to closer. Don't get me wrong, he could be good in that role, just not the ideal outcome for a 2nd round arm like that.

As long as he gets around 80 innings, he can still be on a track to start in the future. Maybe they are seeing his arm isn't recovering well after the 3 inning appearances, yet. May 14, 2025May 14 Oppor was mostly cruising through his A+ debut into the 4th, but then bad luck and fatigue got to him around the 70 pitch mark. Ground ball that just misses being an inning ending GIDP left the inning alive for an RBI single. Then an IF hit that was fumbled at third led to him being pulled at 3.2IP, 4H, 4ER, 4BB, 3K. 3 of the runs came after he left the game, and 2 of the walks were in the 4th when he was laboring. But on the bright side in WS:

May 15, 2025May 15 Kannapolis has a very impressive team approach and execution on offense. Taking the extra base, working walks, capitalizing with RISP, etc. Highest number of sac flys in the Carolina league, lowest number of GIDPs in A ball. Turned 15 hits and 8 walks into 14 runs because they are adapt at cashing in. Wolkow has a fellow skyscraper on the team with the debut of 6'9" RHP Kevin Davis, a 26yo UDFA.

Even with Montgomery leaving they are one of the more fun teams to watch.
May 15, 2025May 15 I've been watching one thing for Colson. Today was his first AAA game without a strikeout all year. That's the kind of progress I want to see from him, especially since it seems pretty clear by now that most contact is going to be very hot as long as he gets to it.

Even Frank Thomas and Robin Ventura had to prove themselves in Birmingham first, and Ventura was arguably the most decorated player in NCAA baseball history at the time.
May 15, 2025May 15 Montgomery hit two balls really hard to the left side tonight. Good sign. Earlier this year, he was pull crazy and it made him vulnerable to everything. When he was good in lower levels, he went opposite field a lot and controlled the zone. He doesn’t need to hit 30 HR if he does those things.
