I've got to say, this would be insane. Edit: Saw everyone else said it. If Houser finishes the year relatively strong and doesn't balloon, I wouldn't be shocked to see him net 1/15 or 2/30. I don't see a three year guarantee or hitting the 20 million ceiling. He was just released and acquired for free 2 months ago. The league won't suddenly value him in that way. southsider2k5
18 minutes ago, Tony said: Others have said that's crazy so I'm not going to pile on too much, but I'll present it in a little different way. Adrian Houser has been incredible for the Sox, basically a 3 WAR pitcher in 9 starts. Can't deny what he's done. Removing those 9 starts (57 innings), Houser has pitched 608 ML innings, holds a career 4.21 ERA and has a total WAR of 2.7 in his career. So in 57 innings with the White Sox, he's put up a higher WAR than his previous 608 ML innings. So with that in mind, along with him being 32 years old and being on his third team in three years..doesn't the historical evidence tell you the odds of him keeping this up seem incredibly slim? Wouldn't this be buying on him at just his absolute high point? Do you expect Houser to get better than this? And how comfortable are you paying a 35 year old Adrian Houser 20 million in 2028? Adrian Houser, to me, given where this team is at in their "rebuild" is the most clear cut, obvious trade candidate that I can remember. All of the evidence says he's not the guy you make an investment in. It's incredible what he's done and I hope he keeps it up. And maybe he's fantastic the next few years, it's possible. But he's literally pitching at a HoF level right now, I would not be comfortable paying him at that level based on the totality of data we have on Adrian Houser. This is my camp. Trade him to the highest bidder and don't look back.

I just made you waste 10 minutes completing this post. It was literally a joke… 🤣😈🧌 Trust me, neither you nor the Sox make me “butt hurt”. I was born and raised in Chicago and have never left just because the Sox suck like some people have claimed. I like Chicago far too much regardless of the Sox suckitude and I do far too well working from home full-time for a local Fortune 500 company to want to ever move to the Music City, even if the Sox relocate there! As a result, tonight is always my night… 👍🏻 Edited July 11 by WhiteSox2023

Housers change happened in the offseason and they saw the change in stuff quality when scouting him and brought him on. It was a scouting win, but certainly not some mechanical overhaul. These pitching scouting wins seem to be adding up.

Is his falloff simply due to fatigue or overwork compared to past seasons in the Brewers’ system? Can they figure out whether to invest in any of Martin Cannon or Burke…or are they all “what they are” at this point in their development? Trade Martin or Cannon or simply hold? Burke obviously has the best stuff, but… Every player goes through peaks and valleys and even moreso with rookies coming out of nowhere. In Shane Smith's case it could be fatigue since the drop-off has been so drastic and it could be combined with just plain old missing your spots. I don't see the need to trade any of the young starting pitching. Davis Martin I speculated on that possibility earlier but his value isn't that high he has been injured. Burke is a rookie, Cannon 2nd year. All could become worse or better but none of them have been so good to warrant trading. Right now their value comes from being OK MLB pitchers with upside and being pre arb guys . Don't think we're looking at any guaranteed playoff starting pitchers if traded now. So you hold for the future because several mid to back end starters are valuable cheap starting pitchers who for the most part keep you in a lot of games even with 4 - 4.50 ERA. Plus they can get better and if they do they still have plenty of years left before free agency and all those years become more valuable . They also became more valuable to the Sox in the wake of all the Tommy John surgeries and the odd developmental years of Schultz, Taylor, and Hagen Smith. I would love to be wrong, but I can't even squint and see a best case scenario of mediocrity in the next couple of years, let alone a playoff team.

Beyond Teel, I haven't seen any player that I'd feel confident saying they'll be in the big leagues in five years. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but it doesn't give me confidence. Quero has shown something of late, but I'm still not sold there. Grant Taylor will be around but if it's in the pen, that's not doing us much.
