Maybe they'll miss not having Wilson later in the game, but I like Venable treating that as a leverage spot and going to one of his best arms accordingly.

Of course that weak ass contact probably means ballgame. The extra innings rule is so stupid.

I cannot imagine a day that I do not hate Manfred ball.

right, but he was initially on the Mets, then selected by the Phillies and traded to Tampa Bay. Tampa put him on waivers and the Sox claimed him. Unique path to be sure. It's a different situation than Shane Smith who would've returned to Milwaukee if the Sox 'waived' him. The question is simply: do the "Rule 5 rules" even apply to him? I stated it was my opinion that he's doing well and the MLB team "needs" him, I'm just wondering about the rule. At the same time, I'm speculating if it isn't better for future purposes when the team is actually good to try him as a starter. I think so, but maybe being a reliever for a terrible team doesn't preclude one from being a starting pitcher in the future. If they 'could' send him down, you wonder why they'd try to do it for Clevinger and not Vasil. You wonder a similar thing about Grant Taylor, but he might just straight up be a reliever.

Yes, Rule 5 rules apply to Vasil. If a team wants to DFA or put a Rule 5 player in the minors, they have to put him through waivers. If another team takes him, Rule 5 rules now apply to the player with the claiming team. Only if the player clears waivers can the player return to the original team, and he comes off the 40-man, and the original team can put him back in the minors, if the pay the waiving team $50k.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with Clevenger and Taylor. I'd imagine the plan is to work Vasil up to starting in the future. If they don't go on a wild shopping spree this winter, they're still going to need a good dozen starting pitchers to cover the bigs and AAA.

That's too bad, Alexander pitched well

Young guys will eventually learn how to win a game. Just need that to happen and to make the back end of the roster MUCH stronger.

Yep that's a tough L for Alexander.

Watching on gameday....any chance for Robert there or just hit too hard?

Maybe he could have gotten a better jump, but probably not. It's impossible to tell with the awful camera angles in that stadium.

Seems like a problem since 2012...a lot of it has to do with lack of quality minor league depth and poor FA resource allocation with payrolls.

They need upgrades across the board if we’re being honest.  Even the guys on this roster we hope are on the next quality team are more likely lower-tier starting players

And, no, Smith wouldn't return to Milwaukee unless Shane Smith passed through waivers without being claimed. The same rules apply to both Smith and Vasil.

As we said earlier, rough couple of games for Chase. Growing pains but I was wondering earlier today if Sosa is the 2B of our future and not Meidroth.

Some of these FA signings make no sense. Noda and Capra are horrible players.  For as bad as Elko looked most of the time, I still would rather see him at 1B.

That sucks, would have been a really heartening one to get. Gotta make contact in extras.

No real issues with the levers Veneble pulled, most of them worked, and the ones that didn't weren't really in his control. The guys fought hard, just ran out of bodies.

Also...it's a win in regulation if not for that ball 4 call to Seager. I'm still annoyed on behalf of Taylor's ERA.

Constant waiver wire pickups do not a winner make....who knew?

One team's trash is the shiny new penny for Getz.

Well back to doom and despair as the schedule gets challenging again.

Nine consecutive losses at Globe Life.

7-30 road record.

To be fair, they are complete bullshit.

Think of all those years we coulda had Semien on our team. Another example of letting a star go in the name of tank.

He got traded for the complete opposite. They traded for Samardzija trying to win.

Sox now an incredible 4-17 in one run games, that's astonishing.
