No indicators Sox are building around speed

And they're certainly not building around power...

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/nba-finals-is-this-the-arrival-of-a-thunder-dynasty-in-a-copycat-league-okc-may-be-copycat-proof-180924051.html

The White Sox will fall to 29th in stolen bases once you strip out Luis Robert's 22 bags.

What exactly is their niche?

Besides being yet another feeder team for the rest of MLB's contenders?

Other than Brooks Baldwin...there's hardly a legit young prospect that even runs better than average.

Maybe Bergolla Braden M. and Zavala.

It's pretty clear they're not building around power...but why not speed/hustle/defense like Getz promised potential pitchers coming into 2024???

What happened to THAT?

Where's our Sam Presti(gious)...?

https://bookies.com/mlb/picks/2025-mlb-teams-ranked-by-age-oldest-to-youngest

And then the average age of rostered Sox players is nearly 29...with 7 teams somehow below them.

No excuse to be right there with the Twins and actually behind the Tigers (same goes for the moribund Rockies too).

The A's Nats Marlins are all understandably there...but the playoff-competitive Cards Guardians Rays, too???

That's their MO.  Even if they have speed they have dumb base runners.

Yeah...Meidroth is far from a burne,r but their second fastest/quickest young player, and has made a number of mistakes on the base paths.

Baldwin arguably #1 in base running and defensive miscues.

So in other words, there are no indicators they are building around a coherent strategy. Awesome.

Even the Rockies are leading in June OPS for the NL.

Not even sure the Braves would trade Acuna, Jr., for the entire 26 man White Sox roster.

Probably not.

And they won't have any until new ownership takes over.

That's what I was thinking.   I would think it should be pitching,  since they seem to do that best, but who knows.

One thing I noticed watching fall league teams is other organizations are investing in speed.

Meanwhile Getz's best plan so far has been Greg Jones.

Who can't hit his way out of a phone booth.  And now this Baker kid at AAA.

not sure of that anymore either,  then they have to move them to fill extreme weaknesses.

In this age you can never have enough pitching because of the increasing amounts of TJ surgeries.

And then Davis Martin was someone a number of posters were looking to trade at the deadline.

That's no longer possible with the long-term injury concerns.

Clevinger next in line lol.

Agreed. And I think it’s more likely we get a top prospect arm for Robert than a bat. Not much else coming with that.

Don’t actually think we will but more likely than a bat.

Until Jerry does not own the Sox, it is all moot.

If it were truly moot, there’d be no point in paying any attention to the team until then, yet here we all are anyway.

I dont think they're building around speed but what kind of data is this:

Okay?

If you take away all the bases they've stolen, they'd have zero bases stolen. That's concerning.

Okay?

https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/sprint-speed-team?season=2024&team=

White Sox are alsof at 22nd here in average team sprint speed.

And Baldwin/Robert are their two fastest...with both having "questionable" at best futures with the Sox.

Players ranked #3-8 are all unlikely to be on the team next year.

That leaves Vargas at #9 as their so-called speed merchants at first or 3B.
