Dick Allen
Pretty sad the Sox have tried to cash in on this considering JR has stated Dick wasn't HOF material.

He hit all kinds of home runs. Roof shots, high towering HR to RC, the only home run in Comiskey's little RC area out there. Using that incredibly long bat ... that memorable batting stance little kids copied. He deserves the Hall on style alone. I remember when he hit the homer to RC in Comiskey. What an amazing HR.

Lip Man 1
Watched the tape of the ceremony this afternoon and while I'm very, very happy Dick finally got his due as Dr. Fletcher, myself and others worked very hard to see it happen I was disappointed the White Sox were basically ignored in it. It was Philly, Philly, Philly even though he won the MVP award with the Sox and helped save the franchise. Mike Schmidt talked about Dick in the feature but no White Sox teammate was interviewed and guys like Jim Kaat were actually there. I also didn't see any Sox fans decked out in any gear in the audience when they were showing wide shots. Maybe they were there and I just didn't see them. Anyway I hope Dick somehow, someway knows he finally made it.

Dick Allen’s magical season continued with two inside the park home runs in a single game. That tied the Major League record. It happened in Minnesota at old Metropolitan Stadium as the Sox beat Bert Blyleven 8-1. Bobby Darwin was the Twins center fielder who misplayed both of Allen’s drives. He slipped on the first one which saw the ball bounce completely over his head in right center, then on the second one he mistimed his dive in left center and the ball got by him and rolled all the way to the wall. Allen was credited with five RBI’s on the day. It started a stretch that saw the Sox win 14 of the next 17 games. 1

That sucks and I didn't know he wanted that. He probably could've made it happen if he really wanted. Absolutely love that he's immortalized in those big geeky glasses though. Timeless look, timeless slugger. Congrats to Mr. Allen!

According to Dr. Fletcher from the Chicago Baseball Museum (Chili Dog M.V.P. book) these are the people connected to the White Sox who were there today, not counting former players enshrined in the Hall: Bruce Tanner, former Sox pitcher and son of Chuck Tanner, former Sox owner John Allyn's grandson Bryan, Nancy Faust and former Sox pitcher Tom Bradley. No one from the current Sox organization. I don't know if Goose Gossage was there or not.
Lip Man 1
From Paul Sullivan's Sunday column: Worst programming decision: How does CHSN virtually ignore Allen’s induction into the Hall of Fame? They had all year to put together a short documentary on the man who helped save the franchise from moving in 1972. It would’ve been great viewing before or after Sunday’s game. Someone dropped the ball.
Melton1972
Didn't Dick Allen face abuse by Philadelphia Phillies fans and actually demand to be traded from there? I could easily see why he preferred to be inducted with the White Sox where he was adored and treated with respect. I believe his relatives who are Pennsylvania residents pushed for his induction as a member of the Phillies.

With how Jerry treated his candidacy, I can also see his family changing their minds on his being inducted as a White Sox.
WBWSF
I would think that most younger White Sox fans are not familar with Dick Allen and how much he meant to the White Sox franchise. I've noticed that the upcoming Bill Veeck night in August. There are not alot of tickets sold for that night even tho its a bobblehead giveaway and fireworks night. I would think that most younger White Sox don't know or care about Bill Veeck. The only reason why I'm going is because of the bobblehead.,I was not a fan of Veeck. I was happy when he bought the team the second time and I was happier when he sold the team 5 years later. I thought Veecks 2nd ownership of the team was horrible. He had one good team in that era. The rest of the years were terrible. If the White Sox wanted a big attendance for bobbleheads all they would have to do is have a Joe Jackson bobblehead night. He started wearing his batting helmet in the field and one time with his spikes wrote "boo" in the dirt around first base. And you are also correct about the assumptions from his family.
ThirdGen
I believe it is simply a matter of games played. I'm too lazy to research this, but I doubt any position player in the HOF is wearing the cap of a team he only played 348 games for regardless of personal happiness. And his 1972 was historic, but his 1966 Phi season was every bit as dominating. He was fourth in MVP voting behind guys named Mays, Koufax, and Clemente. Was at the induction last weekend and we ate at the Italian restaurant on Main Street in Cooperstown. Sitting near us was JR, Dennis Eckersly, Arte Moreno (Angels owner), and Tony Larussa. Just exchanged nods - didn't want to bother anyone's dinner. Who would have put Eck and Moreno with JR & TLR for dinner?
