Robert stays...

34 games isn’t a 1/3 of a season.  It’s 1/5.

Also, Houser had 6 wins in 11 starts.  Who is replacing him in the rotation that is going to maintain around a 2.00 ERA?

Nobody said it was. 1/3 of the season that's in the books. You're so angry that the Sox are doing well and people are hopeful, you can't even read.

No doubt but funny we’re celebrating a month in which they played a game under .500. The team as currently constructed with a few minor offseason additions is still a 90-95 loss team imo. It feels great for many because the bar was set so low after losing 121.

You don't seem to be celebrating.

Perfectly good with this. Really hoping Robert figured something out post break and we see him keep it up. If he does - we should get some real value in the offseason. Just imagine he finishes 2H of the year hitting like .275 with an .800 OPS plus his defense. Sox pick up option and are willing to send cash - they will be able to get something better than what was offered today (presuming nothing very good came there way). Now he could suck rest of the year and play himself out of the option but I’m going to hope Sox have seen something inside lockeroom that supports making the choice they are.

I also think playing hard ball if a difference making type of prospect wasn’t there is worth it. Will help in the future.

Not angry at all.  I enjoy watching my two boys play HS football more than this 100 loss team.  Please make your posts more clear in the future because other posters were confused by your wording as well.

So negativity for negativity sake…got it

How long have you been a fan of this team? Lol. Reinsdorf spending any significant amount of money next season would be COMPLETELY out of character.

Exactly.  Like I said, I’ll believe it when I see it.   Or when Ishbia is officially the owner, not when he can kindly and prematurely pay toward Jerry’s expenses before he is even the owner.  The scam deal Jerry worked with Ishbia tells the story itself.  Other teams are straight up sold over an offseason.  Jerry worked a deal to sell his team like a top defense attorney magically avoiding the death penalty for a serial killer client.

There’s nothing to celebrate until Ishbia starts throwing $ into this team

Then "we" isn't the proper pronoun to use. I do think it's funny when bro-dudes think they get to decide what other people get to be happy about.

It's the same 3 cranks. Nobody else had a problem.

I still have a hard time seeing JR ok the $20M expenditure after Robert’s past two seasons.

It’s a weird flex made by some posters here.  Getz keeping a guy that’s been a bum for two years and injured every year but one over his entire career shows what courage he has?  Giving this guy $20 million is a step in the right direction?

We have $40M in salary committed next year for an entire 26 man roster and that’s with Robert as our CF.  There should be $40M to $50M to spend just to maintain our current payroll.  Do you actually think we will go backwards in payroll next year?

No one should decide that for you.  But that’s why I get more enjoyment out of watching my kids play HS football, and soon my oldest son playing college football.  These MLB players wouldn’t give any of us the time of day, so it’s funny to truly care that much about what they do until they actually bring a winner to Chicago.

Why are you just assuming Jerry will match this year’s payroll?  He has been cutting it intentionally over the years with this second rebuild and he is also looking to sell the team by 2029.  One vague comment by Getz doesn’t make me think they will truly spend in free agency.

Good for the Sox keeping Robert. Not having one legitimate possible veteran "star" on a MLB team is just flat out wrong for a city like Chicago. Colson is a star, yes, and some other young hitters look star-ish, but cmon, to have a major league franchise you need to show you are half-buttedly at least, trying to win games and please fans. Robert on paper is a special player, at least defensively. He can't even consistently get two hits every 10 at bats but he's still got star potential on paper. I agree with the decision completely.

Greg, Roberts on paper has an OPS+ less than 90 each of the last two seasons and he isn’t getting younger.

Here's what I wrote:

"They're 17-17 since June 20. That's right around 1/3 of the season that's in the books."

If you can't tell the difference between what I wrote and what you're saying, there's really not point in responding to you.

I got what you wrote but it would have helped had you not tortured the English language in that post.  I can see why people were lost based on that sentence.

It’s weird that he’s berating people for not understanding his horribly constructed sentences.

It's more like $55-60 million when you fill up the roster.

I would not be even remotely surprised. His "sale" is structured the way it is specifically to milk the club for everything it is worth.

What they are likely to reach this season.

They are literally on pace for 103 losses so you were very close with 105, and Houser being gone could easily account for those extra 2 losses if not more.

Jerry has a CPA and was an IRS/tax lawyer/attorney in his younger years.  He definitely formulated the ultimate leech deal with Ishbia until his untimely demise.

Our 2024 payroll on OD was $142M or 18th overall in baseball.  Yes, he cut the payroll after a historically bad season in year 2 of a rebuild and in absence of a local TV deal.  There is zero objective reason to expect us to go backwards next year.  Literally in our last rebuild the lowest our payroll ever got to was $72M.  In today’s dollars, that would be a $92M payroll.  And yet you think we will go below $78M next year despite us actually showing some signs of life due to our young players and despite Jerry rapidly approaching death’s door and likely wanting to watch semi competitive baseball in his remaining years.  No idea why selling the team would result in further payroll cuts when a deal is already in place.
