If they play .500 ball the rest of the way, they'll lose around 95. They were 12-13 in July.

I said it elsewhere, but the devastating thing to me is that my entire life I've been surrounded by Sox fans -- friends and family.  The vast majority of those people are no longer watching White

He’s a small sample size guy.  Houser is gone and we may soon see the rotting corpse of Thor in our rotation…

They're 17-17 since June 20. That's right around 1/3 of the season that's in the books. 34 games isn't a small sample size anymore.

Cool, maybe sign some guys worth a damn at next year’s deadline.

I still have a hard time seeing JR ok the $20M expenditure after Robert’s past two seasons.

How is 34 games a 1/3 of the season?

34 games is obviously a small sample.

You think this is a .500 team? Holy moly.

What's the goal? Getting good players in place, or being able to crow over $100M contracts? And if they buttoned up the bullpen even more, that would help.

Not being one of the worst franchises in baseball is a great place to start for me personally.

They played a half game under .500 in July. They're a different team from the one that left spring training.

Sure but they won’t play .500 ball the rest of the season.

Bad math

Was Robert playing better because he was motivated to get traded? I am interested to see how he finishes the season. His defense is still stellar and fun to watch.

34 games isn’t a 1/3 of a season.  It’s 1/5.

Also, Houser had 6 wins in 11 starts.  Who is replacing him in the rotation that is going to maintain around a 2.00 ERA?

Never fear, Martin Perez is almost here.

That's obviously why they've decided to double up the run production.

As I said, I'd be thrilled with 70 wins next year. Just pull back into bottom 1/3 territory instead of historical suck.

They probably won’t go 500 the rest of the way, but WestEddy is right that this is not the same team from April. That’s not a controversial opinion.

Exactly. Let's dumpster dive and find as many cheap options as possible because really good talent either costs to much for JR's liking or they won't even consider playing for this organization.

The problem with his logic is that this isn't the team from april but we're still freaking awful. We pulled into a tie with Pitt for 28th fWAR for position players at 2.5. We're 21st in fWAR for pitching at 7.8 which would look a helluva lot better if we had an actual solid defense behind them, but we don't, which is seen at least partially in the lack of position player fWAR: we're -25.2 runs below avg in the field. That's 2.5 wins right there.

We have a long way to go, if we trot out this lineup the rest of the way more often than not:

Meidroth, Tauchman, Robert, Colson, Sosa, Vargas, Teal, Quero, Baldwin

and the pitching doesn't fall a part I can see a 38% or maybe even 40% from here on in. I wouldn't take anything over 40% even with Greg's house. The pitching is almost certain to regress here.

I dont have a dog in this fight but you guys need to lrn2read

Good for the Sox keeping Robert. Not having one legitimate possible veteran "star" on a MLB team is just flat out wrong for a city like Chicago. Colson is a star, yes, and some other young hitters look star-ish, but cmon, to have a major league franchise you need to show you are half-buttedly at least, trying to win games and please fans. Robert on paper is a special player, at least defensively. He can't even consistently get two hits every 10 at bats but he's still got star potential on paper. I agree with the decision completely.

No doubt but funny we’re celebrating a month in which they played a game under .500. The team as currently constructed with a few minor offseason additions is still a 90-95 loss team imo. It feels great for many because the bar was set so low after losing 121.

Judging by the way the Sox trades have panned out over the years and given the return for outfielders today, I was okay with them not trading Robert. Yeah he’s got an expensive option, but expensive compared to what with this payroll? And what would they do to fill the void with free agency if they declined the option?

Now if they let him walk, I will scratch my head. But I really need to see some investment in this team in the offseason to have faith in this team. Signings like Perez, Rojas and Wilson won’t cut it.

If you can't tell the difference between what I wrote and what you're saying, there's really not point in responding to you.
