  • Who was available that you’d actually want? I’m fine with him growing with the team.

  • Why don't the Sox hit a bunch of homers every game? Are they stupid?

We needed a tested veteran manager instead of a guy who is going through OJT but when you have a cheapskate owner that’s what you get.

TLR was available.

I think I'm going to throw up.

Montgomery, no hyperbole, is our best prospect maybe ever. That swing on the homer is as smooth yet forceful as anybody who has worn a Sox jersey. Whoever is responsible for drafting him must be a genius. 22nd overall pick? How could all those teams pass up this natural talent? When is the hype machine gonna take off?? He is the Sox's Caitlin Clark. He is the Sox's Connor Bedard. He is the Sox's versus of the Bulls' Mxxxxxx Jxxxxx. OK I won't go that far yet.

Sure, because he already burned this franchise to the ground.

This is when you remember that Greg is just fishing for rage cause he wants everyone to go "how do you forget FRANK THOMAS"

I went to last   nights game and attendance was announced as over  17,000.  I went to todays game and the attendance was announced as over 19,000. I think I'm a good judge of the size of crowds. It seemed to me there where more fans at last nights game and todays game. Perhaps there not announcing fans who get free tickets. All I know is that both days had bigger crowds  than what was announced.

Imagine two HR every game. Love the power display.

The eye test certainly hasn’t been great for him on defense. What do the advanced metrics say about his defense at 2B?

Below average but not a butcher.

Only need to go 36-7 to get to .500!  Start a new thread.

Schriff had a much better call on this moonshot, but something about hitting it to the concourse is extra special. boring call, you're right.

Nice stress free save by Taylor to take the team lead with 4. I imagine Yankees fans are pretty thankful.

JRam made the last out to finish an 0-5 day for him, and a 1-13 series (the one hit was that fake double in game 1). Maybe his worst series vs. the Sox in recent memory?

They held Raleigh to 1-12 (a single) in Seattle too despite the sweep. Shutting down the opponent's biggest threat is not a bad goal to have playing in this division.

Any word on why Taylor hadnt pitched in so long ?  Seemed like a planned rest without IL- ing him so a pitcher short during the losing streak .

Edit Forgot he got the loss in the 11th inning against Seattle 8/7 but before that his last appearance was 8/1.

Imagine if Miguel Vargas hit that ball...alas Schiffren is not bros with Colson and his father.

Maybe greg just meant best ever for such late 1st round pick who had a series of ups and downs that had nearly everyone diubting him and quite a few calling him a bust /bum.

Frank Thomas did nothing but hit from the time he was drafted to the day he retired.Pretty damn good #7 1st round pick !

Frank is/was amazing (his batting eye especially and overall hitting of course) but this Montgomery has the SWING. Smooth, explosive, BOOM.

It took 4 minutes for him to jettison this theory.

Tim Anderson was 17th....and had a very disappointing sophomore season.

Burger?  Although he never was ranked as highly in the Top 100 only to fall completely out of it due to his performance...rather it was the back to back Achilles' injuries.

Sorry, the theory that was jettisoned was that greg " meant best ever for such late 1st round pick who had a series of ups and downs that had nearly everyone diubting him and quite a few calling him a bust /bum"

As you can see, it's just Montgomery > Frank.

You can go through my comment history and see that while I never tapped out on Colson I was down on him hard. If he turns into a Top 20 hitter all time, then sure. But like Cali pointed out, Frank raked from day 1.

I mean for god's sake, greg is using "BOOM" as an argument against Frank Thomas.

I also realize that by letting myself get pulled into this I've satisfied the feeding of the troll.

Burger ? People liked him because he seemed like a helluva nice guy and was upfront and hinest about how depressed he was. But he never made the impact as a Sox player.

Many of the biggest brains on Soxtalk will still tell you the idea of that trade was the right thing to do  even though it ended up a bad trade. But Buger had people who liked him . You, me, many more. Baseball since then covets position players with power.
