Sun Times says it’s time for the Schrif to move on

Until those who kicked Benetti out are gone, this is what this organization deserves

Schriffen is a perfect reflection of this organization.  This includes how it hires unqualified people for top positions and how it has given Sox fans an utterly crappy product.

Schriff is better than last year, and I think he's put in a lot more work, but he's still pretty unlistenable. But Agrest is wrong that "sac fly RBI" is redundant. There are sac flies that advanc

The article says that Jon Sciambi is one of the best in the game. It couldn’t be more wrong. The rest of the article is worth about as much. He’s improved from being with Stone and I’m fine with him.

You may not like Sciambi, as I am not a fan of his delivery, but there’s no doubt he does a ton more legwork and research prior to games than Schriffen does.  He shares a ton of analytics and information that would basically make Schriffen respond with **crickets**.

Here's another wild one: he referenced that Noel dude's nickname as "christmas" TWO DIFFERENT TIMES AND BOTH TIMES SAID IT'S BECAUSE HE SMILES A LOT.

Bro.

My favorite part about it is that nicknaming someone christmas because they smile a lot doesn't even make sense.

Big L here. Retaining this jabroni is making me angrier than it should lol.

I am kind of surprised, because it sure felt like someone was getting phased out, but also I guess this franchise would rather go down in flames than admit they are wrong until it is way too late.

When the story came out in the Sun-Times yesterday my thought was that JR and Brooks even if they were thinking about letting him go could change their minds and basically say FU to the media.

Again nothing changes until Ishbia takes over.

I am already prepared for these final 9 games to be hammered with "The Sox need to go X - X to avoid 100 losses" right down to the wire. If they get swept by San Diego, it'll be "Alright Steve, the Sox need to finish 6-0 to avoid 100 losses a tall task but this isn't last years team!"

Like who cares, 95 losses, 100 losses, it's a miserable season no matter what. Push something else.

To be fair, there's literally a thread here and many other posts about whether they'll get to 100 losses or not, so I think it is a story worth attention on the broadcast.

But, to your point, I do expect the coverage of it to be completely in your face and lacking any awareness or tact. There's a right way to acknowledge that story without being a complete salesperson for the team.

Off topic but Sox season is over and boring anyways. I can't stand King and Amin belittling other teams and players and doing their giggle routine as the Bulls lose again on the way to another 38 win season. It is not professional or endearing.

Gotta disagree about Adam and Stacey -- they're the best sports play-by-play team in the city, if you ask me. I've never heard them belittle other teams/players -- on the contrary, they're respectful and informative about other teams. True, there's a lot of joking during down moments, but they can call a game with the best of them when it matters. Nothing wrong with being fun on a broadcast, as long as you don't lose track of the game. After all, sports is an entertainment.

Maybe he has a year left on his contract and they figure to make a change after 2027, otherwise this is par for the course of White Sox brass willing to accept sub-mediocrity because it's already in place.

What fun to have both the broadcaster and the team on the same development path of maybe being good by 2029.

You may be right. The folks I spoke with weren't sure if he had a two or three year deal.

And some of the most memorable moments of both Hawk and Jason were exactly that.  It wasn't a game call, it was a gimic or reaction or stunt that got attention.  The singing Nationwide stuff, the Campfire Milkshake, Hawks pick to click, etc.  All non-game play stuff.

Even though a lot of people hated it i was a big fan of SoxMath

Another great example.

The "win win win win" crap can stop as well. Not only is that song passe and old now (it was great 4 years ago) we don't win. we lose. when john is like "play the song" it feels like a bigger deal then it should be to just win a single baseball game.

It was fun until you got like 2-3 guys winning every game.  Jordan Lazowski was cleaning house iirc 😂

Schriffen and Beckham - death as an option?    I can't stand either one. Too many retreads that remind us how and this organization is.

I worded my response a bit wonky there. I'm not sure if he has a year left and the change would be effective for the 2027 season or after, but maybe it's just them riding out the contract and before doing their due diligence heading into the next search. The sooner the better IMO given how poorly the broadcast ranks, I would like to imagine that they aren't complacent or proud of that.

Well you have Brooks quoted by Merkin that he's "pleased with that", as in the broadcasts have improved.

Just listen to John Rooney for a week or two in St. Louis.

The difference is as clear as night and day.

Or Don Orsillo (former Boston/SD) and Mark Grant together in San Diego.

Baseball fans are sophisticated enough to recognize the difference between good and bad.

It's not even clear to me after two years that Schiffren even enjoys baseball...and if so, why.  It feels like he enjoys the travelling, eating out, luxury hotel existence and being around the players and coaches and feeling important moreso than the broadcasting job itself.

He would still love the lifestyle if you took the job away.

I must be the only White Sox fan who simply didn't like John Rooney as a PBP man. Too "trained" sounding and basically humorless.

He was on one of the WSCR morning shows (I think with Levine) awhile back, and the guy was everything I remembered: lacking in wit, zero personality, and unwilling to engage in any conversation that would resemble a human being.

Calls a professional game, for sure. But not my cup of tea.

Late 80s/early 90s he and Wayne Hagin on 670 WMAQ were the only way to access the White Sox consistently from Iowa...especially night games.

Hagin left for the Mets (like Torborg) and I think he's still broadcasting with the Angels.

Back then, you could listen to Erie Harwell, Eucker in MIL and Buck/Shannon in St. Louis.

Lmao whatever man.  Double down on a bad decision
