Saw someone speculate Jerry wouldn’t let Getz fire anyone still under contract coming into 2025

Sad if true, but I think it's reasonable for the 'hitting coordinator' and bench coach/catcher whisperer to see what they have before making a quick decision. Bannister will probably play a big part in hiring a pitching coach which strikes me as reasonable. I thought Katz was pretty good overall, but he's been around for a while and I agree with the "breath of fresh air" sentiment. Fuller seemed like a good hire to me and made a difference. McKinven had a nice track record with the Brewers, but Quero was an abysmal framer and Teel wasn't much better. I think the bench coach has better things to do than work with the catchers specifically. I think they can do a lot better in both of those departments.

Petit Bourgeois was just some guy. I can't tell what he actually did. Semi-surprised Jirschelle is sticking around if Santos is gone. I don't know what his contract situation is though.

I don't think it's normal for a typical pitching coach/organization to have similar before & after results Katz had with guys like Giolito, Crochet, Cease and Rodon. Every time he had success with a legitimately talented pitcher they were traded away. Fedde's career basically fell apart (again) after the Sox traded him away, FWIW. Whether you want to credit Bannister or Katz for his success is a fair question.

Maybe they should have hired his coach from Korea

Those were the ones that Venable was allowed to hire for himself i believe. This is nothing more than Venable being allowed to bring in more of his guys. Last year they didn't want to change everything at once.

You’re probably correct, but Wise was a holdover, but maybe Venable knew him.  It is interesting because there never was a hint of anything but satisfaction with the coaching staff by both Venable and Getz.

Katz is one of the best organizational hires they've made in a very long time. I'd imagine he'll land on his feet quickly. Hopefully the Sox can upgrade but I am very skeptical.

Probably west coast again...

SF?  Reunited with Flaherty or Gio?

The SEC schools are paying the highest coaching salaries these days by far.

Watch Venable leave to replace Bobby if he retires from Texas...guess most wouldn't be all that upset one way or the other.

Would rather see Schiffren jettisoned.

Didn't he say how much his wife loves Chicago? Who would want to go back to Arlington when you can live in a world class city?

Well after my rant in the other thread, maybe the Sox see the need to have coaches instead of over the hill players acting as coaches.

I kinda like it just cause the easier thing is to just do nothing and "show loyalty" -- hiring someone better requires more money and effort. Huh.

No but stuff leaks out and this is a huge turnover. I get letting him have  his own guys, but they didn’t even let LaRussa have his own guys. Besides, if these guys all were great, they would have kept them. So there had to be issues other than Venable didnt know them. He does now.

So much for the season long stream of positive/feel good stories about Santos and that string of tear-jerking major league promotions filmed from his office.

He was expected by many to be the manager in waiting...along with Jirschele.

Haha, beat me to it.  No more epic videos about how player X was Santos’s favorite player ever to coach as he told the player he was getting promoted to the majors.
