The way Schriffen spoke about this guy you would think there were multiple Cy Young’s in his future. No big loss, probably got crap back.

He probably blows but was a top 100 prospect recently. Worth a shot.

There's your new RFer or replacement for Robert...

Gomez was penciled into the 2026 rotation by some, but as of right now he probably would have been.

This looks like a classic Getz trade.  Pereira was a former Yankees top prospect that hit well in the minors but hasn’t shown the ability to hit in the majors.  But it’s probably worth a shot since Gomez was the cost.  The problem is that Getz isn’t hitting the mark with these acquisitions outside of Vargas (sort of) — Fletcher, DeLoach, Meadiocre, etc.

Very likely that he will be given the shot.

Everson Pereira is currently playing winter ball in Venezuela (as in, he's literally in a game at this moment).

He's got a .951 OPS (.309/.424/.527) through 15 games there, with 7 XBH (2HR), 9BB, and 12K.

Decent AAA numbers last season (.256/.359/.508 with 21HR), got a 65AB cup of coffee with the Rays.

"As I thought of what to write for today, our fearless leader Andrew Mearns suggested I do a deep dive on someone who I believe to be the most divisive prospect in the Yankees’ farm system: Everson Pereira.

Pereira signed in 2017 as an international amateur out of Venezuela for $1.5 million and was lauded at the time for his plus athleticism, sensational bat speed which translated to in-game power, and defensive ability in center field. Unfortunately, we’ve been robbed of opportunities to scout Pereira over a full season, as he’s never played more than 110 games in a season. There have been some freak injuries mixed in with more typical, muscular ailments – especially of late. While injuries have undoubtedly robbed Pereira of vital reps, he’s now accrued just under 1,500 plate appearances in his minor-league career."

This was written BEFORE the 2024 season btw.

Pereira has slowed slightly as he has added muscle but still possesses solid speed and makes the most of it. He can steal an occasional base and covers ground in center field with his quickness and instincts. If he has to move to a corner, he has the power and solid arm strength to profile well in right field.

I not feel qualified to be a MiLB fan. Always thinking of the future.

Oh good, he comes preinjured. We won't have to do much.

Pereira’s strikeout rate is pretty appalling.  29% in the minors and 39% in the majors thus far.

Apparently Steven Wilson also headed to TB

We finally have the final pieces to the Cease trade!!!!!!

Tanner Murray looks like Braden Shewmake’s brother from another mother.

Junk for junk.  A true Getz trade.

Never been a Pereira fan cuz of the hit tool, but maybe Fuller can fix him.

Much cheaper than Fairbanks lol?

Tanner Murray sounds like either a pro golfer or NFL PK/punter.

Just in case anyone was seriously thinking the Sox would be spending in free agency this offseason, Getz probably just checked off “lefty bullpen guy” and “platoon RF for Tauchman / starting CF when Robert is traded” from his offseason checklist with these two trades today.

Phones are reportedly already ringing off the hook at the Sox ticket offices.

Get 'em while they're hot!

Surely this will turn out exactly like the 2004 offseason when the Sox made a series of under the radar moves that were widely panned as they moved Magglio Lee and Valentin.

Pereira has zero options left, so he has to make the team out of spring training, or...something.

I don't mind it. Power hitting, young, corner guy to work out his issues in the bigs like everybody wants. I think an interesting sub-plot is that the Tampa Rays see the White Sox as a team to look to for rehabbed pitching. The White Sox also quietly disperse with one of their Friday contract tender decisions in Wilson.

Also, the Sox had 5 open roster spots, and now they have 4.

Are any of these acquisitions related to Kyle Tucker??  Asking for a friend.

Seems fine to me. Plenty of pitchers to replace them. Pereira is intriguing. Actual power, useful glove, young. Worth a shot, not surprised Wilson and YoYo had some value.
