At no point do I ever want Matt Shaw on my team because I will always actively root against him.

You could have just stopped there.

There really are some anonymous shitbags on this website. Just a completely derailed thread full of utter nonsense.

I can’t see this being a good signing considering Bregman is turning 32 before the season starts.  Obviously this means Tucker is gone.  Not so horrible of a contract to debilitate the Cubs but I would have looked elsewhere.  Regardless, I truly hope Getz is trying to trade for Matt Shaw right now.

Ew.

Trade what exactly

Whatever they can afford to give up.  The guy is just turning 24 in March and put up a 3.1 bWAR in his rookie season.

I think it’s more likely Cubs keep him in semi-regular bench role or trade Hoerner and open up 2B for him.

I’m not sure I buy that.  They love Hoerner and look how quickly they were to make Shaw a bench player.  Hoerner put up a 6.2 bWAR and they are never going to get back his worth in a trade.

Need a RIGHT fielder

Boston has to do something now right? Not a single MLB FA signed so far. If Philly nabs Bichette, then...?

Vargas had a higher wRC+ than him last year and nearly the same fWAR.  I get the prospect pedigree, but let’s not pretend this kid is some sure fire star because of his 2025 season.  Given the players that we currently have, acquiring a RH hitting infielder with baggage who won’t come cheap seems like the worst move we could possibly make.

Do not like this for the Cums at all. Too rich for my blood for Bregman.

No idea why they'd rather have bregman than tucker.

Boston media has been pretty positive about getting Bregman for 3 years but now they have to find a replacement.

Bregman will give them 1.5 good years and is not putting them over the top in the NL, especially if PCA is closer to 2nd half numbers instead of 1st half.

A reunion with Tenders himself.

Half the price and Ricketts is cheap AF.

I think you are right.  The Cums may have been better served filling other holes.

That is a pretty big load for an old man.

Yep, that’s a massive load to deposit all on one guy.

Deferring $70M of it.

Per Keith Law’s article in The Athletic:

The Cubs now have one infielder too many, and they’re going to end up trading someone. The most obvious candidate is Shaw, whose rookie season was a disappointment at the plate thanks to some frequent mechanical changes and, according to people I’ve spoken to, resistance to help from the Cubs’ staff.

1.5 fWAR.  Considering his sub .700 OPS, and filtering out the hype that accompanied him, the 1.5 is more believable.

So the White Sox should do whatever it takes to obtain an obstinate rookie who bails on his team when it's go time?

Nah, selfadmittedly, only the already finished and overly coachable can succeed here.

I didn’t say that.  If the price is right however…  You don’t usually get to acquire another team’s top prospects unless they have some sort of warts.  I think he is interesting because he can play 2B and 3B and he could potentially be moved to the outfield.

Besides, wasn’t it our “star” CF’er who didn’t even know one of the coach’s names — Charlie Montoyo?  Vargas moping around for half a season.  You act like the Sox roster is a bastion of amazing team players.  I thought only Schriffen truly believed that.
