Mune has power but it seems that since he came back form the disable list he has not been the same hitter. Could it be he is still hurting from his injury and hasn't recovered from his injury? He looks like he couldn't hit me.

Takahashi, who played a significant role in the scouting of first baseman Munetaka Murakami, is on the ground in Japan for the White Sox and helped Keller and Watson get to where they want to go during this journey. It was a multi-targeted excursion, according to Keller.

“The purpose of the trip is really to focus on players who could potentially come over to MLB in the next year to two years,” Keller said. “But we are also looking at domestic players, meaning U.S. born players who are currently participating in the league, and trying to start to build history on younger players who we feel like we want to keep an eye on and continue to see.

“Even if we had not been fortunate enough to sign Mune, we were still going to continue to invest in the Pacific Rim and make sure that we had a presence there because we believe good players can come from anywhere. It’s important to the White Sox. It’s important to our brand. We are going to continue to scout players over there and try to find ways to help this team here be successful.”

On this last trip for Watson and Keller, the elevated White Sox presence in Japan was seen in ways outside the field.

“I was concerned he was going to get arrested for yelling at people in the streets, ‘Go White Sox,’” said a smiling Keller of Watson.

“We wear White Sox gear out in public, and I was amazed at the number of fans who would say something to us, and we would say something to them and what that brand has done with Mune being here,” Watson said. “What the brand has done over there in a short period of time.”

Good for the Sox brand, but unfortunately all those revenues split equally over 30 teams (unless sold through team store)...in Asia, the Dodgers & Yankees would pretty much dominate, since half the girls buying them in China don't know a thing about baseball, only fashion.

In fact, Karina from AESPA is one of the primary mlb/New Era models.

Peter Lambert and Foster Griffin just two more...WS got a lot of mile age out of Fedde and Kay for relatively bargain $$$ as starting pitching goes.

That’s why this doesn’t feel like full panic yet, but it also doesn’t feel like nothing. Murakami’s talent hasn’t disappeared. The bat speed’s there. The power’s there. But he looks like a hitter fighting his timing and maybe trying too hard to force his way out of it. And once a power hitter starts pressing, things can get ugly quick. A late swing turns into a strikeout. A chase turns into a bad count. Then suddenly every at-bat feels like a problem.

The Bottom Line

That’s what makes Murakami so interesting right now. He can look lost for a few at-bats, then one swing reminds everyone why he was such a big deal coming out of Japan. The game-changing power is still there. The question is whether he can make enough contact for it to matter more often. If he does, this turns around fast. If he doesn’t, pitchers will keep coming after him until he adjusts. So yeah, the slump’s real. But writing him off still feels like a mistake.

Pretty sure they haven't been watching the Sox in August/Sept

Mune has been really hard to watch lately. Saw a tweet going around where it looks like his hands are in a completely different place in his set up than early in the season. Really don't understand continuing to run him out there in the middle of the lineup, and he definitely should not be anywhere but 9 against LHP. Frustrating fall back to earth.

Acuna has probably been a more valuable player than Mune over the last 60 days.

Bench him? Well that means you have next to zero chance of resigning him.

Trading him for pennies on the dollar?

The Dodgers don't have to give up talent when they can simply wait out his free agency if they pass on Sato this year.

Without Mune, you need Teel Kolson Braden Bonemer Roch...at least 3/5 (and maybe even 4/5) to stick as 3-4 fWAR contributors.

That's asking a LOT.

And help is certainly not coming from FA this year...

He also sucks defensively, but what you say is true. What the future holds? Who knows if there even will be baseball next year, but benching him now will undermine the 2026 White Sox. Gotta dance with the girl you brought to the party. Too late now. We live or die with this team.
