Wish Sam didn't have to murder him and steal his life force in April though. He could have solidified himself as a decent trade chip for the coming deadline.

Speaking of which. He's on the blocked prospects list for the trade deadline at BA.

The White Sox have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this year, leading the AL Central and putting themselves in a position to be a buyer. One of the biggest strengths of their team is the infield with Munetaka Murakami and Miguel Vargas on the corners and Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth in the middle infield. They also recently drafted Roch Cholowsky first overall, who is expected to move quickly.

Bergolla impressed scouts during spring training and was off to a strong start in Triple-A, hitting .457/.525/.571 in 43 plate appearances before going down with a shin contusion. He has started his running progression and could be close to going on a rehab assignment. Given the White Sox depth in the infield, it’s hard to find a spot for Bergolla. However, he could be an appealing target for teams that believe in his improved bat speed, especially given the combination of contact, speed, and defense he brings to the table.

I found the Carlson blurb the most interesting:

"Carlson is an outstanding defensive shortstop, maybe a 70 glove with an 80 arm. He has real power, but bars his lead arm and loads his hands so deep that he doesn’t meet the ball out front enough to pull it. He missed about seven weeks with a torn thumb ligament, which isn’t going to help his power anyway, returning just a few days ago. The good news is that he’s hitting .275/.408/.373 with very low whiff and chase rates, not shocking for a California high school product but still a very positive sign. If the White Sox can clean up his swing, he might be a monster, with plus-plus defense, strong OBPs and 20+ homers a year. That’s No. 1 prospect in baseball stuff."

Ok, maybe don’t trade him then. I don’t always love his view on pitchers, but Law really knows his stuff on the positional side of things.

Yeah I'm not trading Carlson with a scouting report like that. You'd be selling low on him.

This is why I'm very leery of trading guys like Bonemer and Carlson.

I get that we can't fall in love with all of our prospects such that we're failing to make moves than could put us over the top now because prospects and future pennant chances are never guaranteed. But, I don't want the Sox to go back to the Kenny Williams non-stop "go-for-broke" strategy that shipped off future All-Stars for players that didn't help us in the end.

And we shouldn't - non sensical to move those guys unless you are getting an elite piece in a package. If you want to move guys, you can think about a Smith or Schultz or some of that next wave of pitchers and then you have some of that next wave of positional guys. We have a good system too.

Bergolla was hit by pitch in the ACL game last night and was removed from the game. Anyone know anything?
