GreenSox
the Sox have jammed themselves up with so many questionable players who are at the point in their career for which the Sox have a “use ‘em or lose ‘em” decision that any positional free agent would crowd out necessary auditions…particularly of infielders playing outfield. Conforto would be ridiculous ; Just sign a good pitcher. Edited 3 hours ago by GreenSox
fathom
I’m surprised Sox haven’t added MJ Melendez this offseason. Former top prospect with the Royals? Sounds like their dream player.

I doubt they are going to spend big on Bader so the only FA outfielder names that make sense would be Conforto and Hays.

chitownsportsfan
It kinda seems like the same people who said he had no value are the most upset he had no value. Puzzling responses here. This move also doesn't indicate much else imo. I guess you can read into that JR is going to go out cheap as always, but what else? Not sure. We just have to wait until ST starts to see how things shake out. Only another month. 3

He said all along they need to move Robert to spend on others, and they Murakami was a special situation thanks to Boyer.

I think people are mad that they weren’t willing to include money to increase the package, not that I think it would have actually been to much of a difference.
ChiSoxFanMike
It’s driving me nuts to see Merkin and all these other beat reporters posting these fluff pieces and tweets about having “financial flexibility” now that Robert is gone. Their payroll was one of the lowest even with him. What a load of crap. 1

Sure, but this is a JR joint. Can't get fooled again. Just hope he turns over the team ASAP.

NorthbrookBob hasn’t recovered from his New Year’s party when he was out boozing with Getz and they were talking about the Murakami signing. Getz had one too many Shirley Temples and told NorthbrookBob, “Hell, I may just sign all of these Japanese guys. Even that pitcher Imai too!” NorthbrookBob took Getz at his word and reported it that night. Getz then told NorthbrookBob that it was just the Shirley Temples talking so he had to retract it minutes later.

Sucks the only one left to stir any crap is Cowley and mostly focuses on stupid rumors rather than hammering home again and again how cheap JR is. That's where I am. They probably didn't see that big a difference between what the Reds were offering for a bought down contract and what the Mets took the whole contract for. That, and maybe Getz saw an opportunity on the market that wasn't going to be there soon, so he moved on Robert.

Yes, but trading Robert to create “financial flexibility” when they have like a $65 million payroll is not something that should be praised.
