It kinda seems like they are giving him the opportunity to start though.

I don't think he is guaranteed to though. I don't even think Burke is guaranteed a spot in the rotation. Adding in another legit SP option would be wise IMO - let the rest of the lot battle for a spot to stay relevant. I'd argue we are looking at Smith, Martin, and Kay as the only locks in the rotation right now.

I'd love to see Luis bounce back with the Mets. His time with the Sox was obviously a disappointment overall, but I don't mind still rooting for the guy.

Yeah but think of all the resultant whingeing on Soxtalk you'll be exposed to

It would be a very weird thing he didn’t have to directly lie about.

They can spend it on housekeeping and general repair moves throughout the year they would be making anyway. Payroll drops. Something about the way he answered that the way he did

Re the pen, I see these 5 as locks

Taylor
Vasil
Leasure
Gonzalez
Newcomb
And they need t0 find a spot for the 2 rule 5 guys, 1 for sure and 2 likely in the pen.

For 1/2 spots, you have Gilbert who was decent and Eisert almost decent.  I hope failed starters like Cannon get pen time.  There really isn’t much room for Getz' $20 mill. in  a rebuild pen situation.

I know they have 2 Rule 5 guys but it’s not a lock they both even survive Spring Training. Maybe one.

Has either pitched beyond A ball?  I doubt either will be “ready.” But if they have the talent, which I suspect they do, hide them for a season.  they are likely better than the org guy Getz will get when he trades his Free Agent middle reliever in July.

I agree but reading the amount of  glee here about a perceived White Sox /Fuller failure even though we all know he is capable of excellence will spark the snark.

One blowhard here already stated how much hes looking forward to check the odds on Robert, Jr. for MVP and to laugh at those who sing Fullers praises.

Gosh, he's really a little fuker.

He not a gazelle with gap to gap range like Robert Jr. He's more like a smallsh medium size dog who scampers very fast twitchy. He can really burst and his sprint speed is right up there with Hill .

I know we have seen various comments on worst outfield in baseball history but we saw a lot of comments last off season about 2025 was going to be worse than 2024 too.

I don't think the OF defense is going to suffer that much from losing Robert, Jr., Taylor and Tauchman.

The hitting might be pretty bad but hoping Baldwin can go from negative WAR to at least 2 WAR if he can ride the hitting improvement he had in the 2nd half and learn how to use  his speed to improve his range enough so his defense doesnt drag down his WAR.

Acuna could accumulate WAR defensively and on the basepaths like Robert, Jr. did and if he can have a Sosa-like VZL league improvement ignite a hitting upswing we're not so bad out there.

Baldwin's April through June was big nothing burger offensively but OPS after that kept going up.

July .759

August  .784

Sept. .828

covering 42 games and 141 PA

Robert Jr.'s year consisted of 2 sub .600 OPS months, 2 sub .700 OPS months and one .990 OPS month consisting of 59 PA , which is less than any of the other 4 months he played in.

Some people seem to think that a dual reality exists around the White Sox, where they have at-bats to give players a shot while also signing bigger names and playing those vets. I'm excited about Acuña and Pereira. Baldwin should really get a clear lane for an OF spot.

According to Garfien , Ozzie Guillen thought very highly of Acuna but then again Ozzie is Venezuelan like Acuna.

There really isn’t any OF worth signing right now for the Sox.  Bader is a bit too long in the tooth and is going to get overpaid due to last season.  Conforto is blech.  Maybe a guy like Hays is worth signing but even if he performs well for the first half, you aren’t dealing him for much of a return.  May as well give these guys at bats.
