WestEddy
Fegan's day two notebook: - Adams, Bush and Berroa all throwing off a mound - Thorpe has yet to throw White Sox spring notes: Erick Fedde returns to the rotation, looking for a return to form - Sox Machine Quote Midway through Erick Fedde's first bullpen session back in a White Sox uniform, senior advisor to pitching Brian Bannister stopped him with an observation. A difference in the timing of his hand break had Fedde already spinning away from home plate by the time he released the baseball "He showed me a video right away and was like, 'Hey do you remember doing this?'" Fedde said. "It felt like I got really cross-body, stepping kind of toward the third base side and trying to think that was going to chase my sinker/sweeper. Talking with Banny today and he was like that’s who you are, when you stay more linear."

Some guys are big picture/less detail oriented. But you definitely need BOTH types in your front office to be effective. (Money is on Carlos Rodriguez being the most knowledgeable, overall.) It's not like Acuna wasn't a possible trade target over multiple years, either. That move didn't come totally out of left field. It was telegtraphed. If it had only been that first time — the Kaplan / McGuffy interview? — he would have been fine. Four times makes it obviously look like he truly thinks Acuna is a switch hitter. Not a simple brain fart. Also, for as great as Getz has supposedly improved the front office, how does not one of his hires notify him of his flub after the first or second time he said it? How does Getz even try to walk this back now? 🤣 Edited 7 hours ago by WhiteSox2023

That's kind of a minor point in the overall scheme of things, isn't it? Basically, it's also a bad look because Acuna and Derek Hill might be the same RH player in the big picture. Sure, Hill is much older and Acuna has the name brand and youth/potential on his side at least.

I don't think so but at the same time not really sure this is a big deal. There's a billion more important things to get right beyond speaking about a bit player. Stupid mistake, but the overall Getz regime is still TBD with a passing grade so far. Next two years he can swim or sink. Just needs time and continuous practice in MOST cases. For example, the speed/pace of basketball games make Benetti and Jon Sciambi adjust to it...rather than trying too hard to fill airtime and let the game naturally breathe. It makes people feel in a hurry when it's baseball...when it should always be more leisurely natural and calmly paced. Autumn Dreamin
Murakami is "electric" and his English is apparently better than expected. He's committed to improving on defense. Will says the early BP sessions have just been tuning his mechanics rather than actually swinging full out (8 HR is certainly not bad for "taking it easy"). When asked about the strikeout concerns, he says they have more tools for training and practice than in NPB (like the pitch sim machines) that the staff can use to help. Says Mune's got a good work ethic and personality. Thinks they'll be able to get ABs for both Teel and Quero. No OD starter yet, but Dominguez is the closer (with the door open for "Judge in the 8th of a one run game" type of non-closing leverage). Emphasized being honest and transparent about roles and expectations for players, including talking to Smith and Schultz about not breaking camp next month. When asked to highlight one offseason add he's excited about, he went with Kelenic which is interesting. Says they think they can tap into his upside. 1
