23 hours ago23 hr Houston fans gave their team the lowest TV rankings in major market history...former dorm mate Brett Dolan lost his play by play job and has struggled to get back to that level ever since. That said, they had Top 3-5 farm systems for three years running. Like the Royals,…like the Cubs, the majority of their high draft picks became significant and consistent 3-5+ fWAR contributors. Padres and Blue Jays systems were all right there near top...and then the Orioles. SD ended up with 4 playoff appearances and 4 playoff series wins, Toronto won the WS last year after a record setting extension to Vladdy. Orioles just doubled down by signing Alonso and trading for Burnes, but look how difficult that AL East is...probably the most analagous to White Sox, as JR was never going to run out a $300-350 million budget like SD and certainly not where TOR is now...$180-220 million was pretty much the peak. Full credit here, there is no man more responsible for the downfall of the White Sox than Jerry Reinsdorf. He's the one who forced Kenny to choose between a competitive roster or the future. He's the one who pushed back as Rick tried to expand analytics. He's the one who forced TLR instead of a real current and successful manager. He's the one who let Kenny float in space after refusing to let him leave for a huge promotion. He's the one who refused Machado and/or Harper. He's the one who preferred a marionette to a GM search. He's the one not able to read the room on a new stadium. He's the one making seem like a huge accomplishment to add a 40 million dollar contract this winter. He's the reason even if Chris Getz is a boy genius as claimed, Jerry will find another way to cock block and destroy, just like all of the other GMs and AGms he has fucked in 40 years. He's the reason for Hawk Harrelson as a GM. He's the reason for Dan Evans, Schumer, Himes, and Hemond. I could keep going, but everyone knows who the problem is.

He had know he'd be a lame duck GM with the bare minimum for the players but also knew he have plenty to spend on infrastucture since those things are a pittance yearly compared to even one contract like Benitendi's annual salary. They cant just cut him and eat the salary. Even if they can save $5M on his salary they'll keep him and play him to extract that savings. Thats just the way it is now.

But the value to see Acuna Baldwin Pereira Kelenic (Sosa maybe) and eventually Braden to play everyday is worth more than $5 million to the future Sox franchise's hopes to compete for the post season in 2028/29/30...

Exactly. He is still going to punish the future of the organization for a few dollars more. Maybe we shuffled around titles and people in the organization, but the biggest impediment is still here.

15 hours ago15 hr Its too bad, but the bright side is, if this was inevitable, having it done now is probably best. Non contention in 2026 and probably some sort of stoppage next season for at least a little while isn't bad. Hopefully he returns better than ever.
