Lock out 2027

Featured Replies

Figured Jimmy or someone might know the answer to my question : During a lockout, are players who are on the injured list still able to get medical attention and rehab or are they also impacted? I started thinking about this when I got the Vasil news. One would think they could but logic doesn't enter into a lot of labor disputes.

Injured players could not rehabilitate at team facilities. Players would be free to sign and play in international leagues during a lockout.

That just seems so stupid.

IIRC, this is what chased Burger into the semi-pro situation.

Dodgers warming up to salary cap

Why even the Dodgers stand to benefit from a salary cap

Do I think that Walter is actually too concerned with parity? No, not really. He's not a stupid man; he knows that MLB has about as much parity as every other major American sports league. But he also knows that the institution of a cap is a great way to keep your costs in check, and that, like any business, keeping costs in check is good for the bottom line - and, more specifically, the value of your franchise.

While the effects of a cap on competitive balance are mixed at best, the effects of a cap on an owner's net worth are crystal clear: With annual spending largely fixed, the line basically only ever goes up, which is why owners from the NFL to the NBA to the NHL have seen their investments multiply in value over the years. Walter wants some of that for himself; the arrival of a salary cap in baseball means a rising tide that will lift all boats, and fatter profit margins against the next round of broadcast rights agreements. Whether it's actually good for the game or its fans is an afterthought, at best.

I've always had a thought about salary caps where the players you sign or draft and develop don't count against it. Only other teams free agents. So the owners get a little something. The players still can get paid if the say with their original team, or they even mess with that a bit and say a specific service time with a team waives it.

A salary cap would not have helped the Sox at all under JR's reign of terror.

It's going to be a long, cold winter next off season.

Simply can't see under any circumstances the MLBPA agreeing to a salary cap.

You can look at how he runs he Bulls and figure out what he would do with the Sox, with one exception. The Bulls, even when horrible, draw like the Cubs, and he refuses to reward them by ever getting in luxury tax territory. One reason the Sox never had sustained success is because JR refused to pay the price.

And the Bulls are profitable AF.

The Bulls are an out and out goldmine. I find it amazing that Bulls fans pay big money year after year and they have bad teams. I realize in a metro area of 9 million it should not be hard selling out if somebody wants to see NBA basketball but still I think its insane to pay that type of money for a bad product.
