Frank Thomas Suing Sox

Featured Replies

Saw the headline earlier today and was like "lul of course" but now reading the reason why, Frank seems justified. Don't know any of the details, but it seems absurd to use his likeness without his permission or giving him any money.

I'm guessing this will end any chance of Frank appearing on the pre and post game shows again.

Maybe we can get Kenny out of retirement to deliver the message?

Another self inflicted wound by an incompetent, dysfunctional and inept organization.

I actually zoomed in on his nose to see if he had any snow boogies.

I have never seen any City Connect jersey out here in the burbs, not even one, let alone a Frank Thomas City Connect jersey. IMO they are pretty ugly and whoever designed them should be sued.

As far as the White Sox, they don't print jerseys. I doubt they even gave the authority to use Frank's name and number, but if they did, obviously they would be liable. But I wonder how much the actual damages are since hardly anyone bought those.

The Sox have managed to burn down Nancy Faust, Hawk Harrelson, and now Frank Thomas in recent years. How's that for some red flags.

Don’t forget Benetti.

Or Allen Thomas (Alek’s father).

Working in licensed apparel, current players are under the MLBPA. When a player retires the apparel companies usually deal with each player individually, be it through an agent or another entity. Looks like they didn’t get an agreement prior to putting his name and number on the City Connect 2.0 jersey.

Thanks for the info.

it seems to happen with recent HoF players

Man, whoever decided to not put him on the graphic really fucked up.

Payback time for Frank, with a vengeance.

Thinking back, I wonder if this stuff was already happening, and that's why he was left off. The timing would make sense.

I was thinking that this morning as well. It's plausible. I wouldn't usually put incompetence down to malice but given this new lawsuit, hey, maybe so.

Me neither, but we also we do lead the league in petty.

Buddy ncorgbl has seen the contract and it is not in there

Corboy and Demitri are personal injury lawyers. Were Lerner and Rowe not available?

All joking aside, whether this is frivolous or not, its an embarrassment the Sox don't need with the best player they may have ever had. Certainly the best since JR took over.

Exactly this and for 50K this seems so dang short sited. In fairness - maybe this is just part of a laundry list and it’s always something, no idea, but I just am kind of done giving this org the benefit of the doubt.

Could probably argue Benetti too

Fisk, McDowell, A.J. Thomas...they simply have a way of alienating some of the best players they ever had.

And those four are just off the top of my head, I'm guessing there are probably more.

....and if you go back to the beginning of JR's ownership Bill Veeck and Harry Caray.

The Ishbia era can't come soon enough. But unfortunately, Jerry has told Roger Bossard he wants to continue burning this franchise to the ground until he's 99.

Ncorgbl is still alive?

Didn’t colsat46 pass away some time ago?

The Giolito arb hearing over $25 or $50000 or whatever it amounted to was ridiculous as well…all vengeance simply because of players’ union related activities.

Exactly my first thought. $50,000 is chump change. Frank is probably getting way more than that in annual residuals from Nugenix every time that commercial plays in which the woman wants to cuck her husband with The Big Hurt.

$50,000 is just the jurisdictional minimum you have to allege. He’s almost certainly seeking more. Probably depends on how many jerseys they actually sold, which I sort of doubt is a huge number. I assume he’s also looking to assert more control over future jersey sales as well.

Don't we always hear about Jerry's undying loyalty? Yet how many players have left the organization on bad terms? Two HOF palyers in Fisk and now Thomas, are outcasts instead of being embraced. Chris sale may be a third HOF player who left under a cloud. What is it Jerry? Loyal friend or just a Dick?

Not to mention recently AJ.

To be fair, AJ being pissed of is pretty normal. He burned more bridges than the Chicago Fire.

I think he's loyal to a fault to those who are good to him. That's why the organization has been full of ex-Sox players instead of the best talent available. It's probably why KW, Hahn, and Cooper were around way past when it was time for them to go. It's why TLR was brought back in to be skipper when he had no business being our next manager.

But there is a long history of vindictiveness towards those who aren't sycophantic enough to the organization.

This is it right here. There is a perpetual litmus loyalty test. You can be perfectly fine one day, but cross the wrong line, and you are persona non grata. Cross another, they have their people targeting you. It's the definition of a mom and pop shop.
