If you want to win today you better have tons of pitching, pitching in spades since guys are always getting hurt. You need to explore every possible avenue to acquire it.

The Sox have very little of it. Especially starters.

I certainly don't deny the importance of pitching, just saying that ROI for pitchers in free agency looks pretty suspect. Of course like all gambling, you can't win unless you play. From a team building standpoint, I would certainly want to delay my investments in pitching until it looks like my team is on the precipice. By contrast I'd be more comfortable investing in a position player even if I think the pieces might not all be 100% into place for a couple years.

They have the 4th best OPS and 2nd most HR against LHP this season, people just don't like the names on the lineup card.

Sandlins motion and windup reminds me a little of Kevin Brown

I think the "don't spend money on pitching" philosophy has come all the way back around to being the smart money again

“Don’t spend money” in general never became popular

The players proposed a "competition clause" around 150 million payroll that would act like a reverse luxury tax. Seems like an absolute non starter with cheapasses like JR still around.

I think it's more the always getting hurt part than it is having very little of it. All the Tommy John surgeries caused a deficit and between injuries & inconsistencies of our top minor league starters it created a massive deficit in just around 15 months.
There's only so much a GM with almost no money to spend can do combat that when you can only sign a pitcher to a 1 or 2 year contract.

You added Fedde, Davitt, Sandlin, Kay, Shane Smith , Vasil, Houser,Yoendrys Gomez . Newcomb can't remember who else who was AAA or above that they added between the last 2 off seasons after the TJ epidemic started in spring 2025.

But Vasil got hurt.Shane Smith lost it then got hurt.Jonathon Cannon was replaced.Gomez and Houser traded or replaced.Schultz not very effective rookie.Fedde cheap signing not effective. McDougal hurt, Hagen Smith no command. THorpe, Mason Adams TJ surgery.Martin and Burke the only 2 who survived from last years rotation. Newcomb was given incentives based on games started but it became apparent he wasn't a starter and has pitched effectively in the pen .

Probably forgetting 3 or more no names who got some starts last year not counting openers.

Haha welcome to the big leagues. Another guy I’m not sure why they called him up.

Good start for the terrible ump as well

f*** I hate Buxton. And this ump is terrible

I think the "sinker" is a kick change

couldn't even get the game loaded and we are losing

Hayes may not be around for a very long time if that hamstring is still bothering him to the point he had to be removed from the lineup Tuesday in Charlotte.

Not in tonight either

That was a complete embarrassment

Feels like everyone of significance is hurt in the minors right now.

Actual nice recovery, secondary pitches look better than fastball

Sandin’s stuff looks good. Location got him with Buxton.

Man this kid got good stuff. Not afraid either

Minus the HR that was great

Home run notwithstanding, the stuff looked very good in the first inning. Don't throw low 4 seamers to Byron Buxton

Buxton needs to go back to being hurt and crap.

More movement on those pitches than I thought

Sandlin looks pretty good. Physically reminds me of Burke.
