Doubt it's much. Minter's a decent reliever making a lot of money this year ($11 million).

Will Twins pick up the payroll or pay a bit more on prospect side.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or where

Wow the Twins are actually buying.

"The Mets will receive prospects Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick, per The Athletic's Will Sammon."

Minter $11 million contract this year, so $3.7 million remaining.

Also it's Benny Agbayani's son, former Pirate.

Twins' top 50, but couldn't be milb top 100 guys if MN taking on $4 million in salary...

"Amick has been a borderline Top-20 prospect at Twins Daily throughout the last two years. The team's second-round pick in 2024, he was hitting .217/.338/.482 with 14 doubles, 23 homers and 72 RBIs at Double-A Wichita."

Agbayani 6th rounder 2025, mostly injured so far...father also played for Mets

Twins Acquire Lefty Reliever A.J. Minter from Mets for 2...

The trade deadline is still over three days away, but the Twins have started buying.

Mets are selling as anticipated.

My prediction is that Getz acquires Holmes and Torrens.

Twins already adding.

I've seen it on the crawl multiple times tonight.

Yeah, not that you're seeing things, just that Francys Romero just reported the Yanks and Angels are hot and heavy over those two players.

Ray has had one of the best ERA's the last month. I would be happy with him being a guy we pick up to replace Schultz in the rotation. Burke-Ray-Martin isn't a bad 1-2-3

But can they realistically get Detmers without Carlson

Sure, if they gave up someone like Braden, or Schultz, or Hagen Smith, or Bonemer with additional prospects. 😆

I really don’t think he’s going anywhere unless it’s for a haul.

Would have been a nice addition, looking forward to seeing what the price was.

Edit: Sweet. That return all but confirms to me that we’ll be wheeling and dealing!

Guess Twins got word today that Sands from their pen, who they counted on returning, needs surgery and will be out.

Makes sense why they added a couple hours after that was made public.

Ray pretty much breezing through 5 against the Padres. I watched a few innings and he doesn't seem like a guy fishing for Ks like he used to.

As others have said, the problem is that his peripherals aren't good and his home/road splits are pretty drastic. Oracle Park is one of the hardest parks to hit homers in. However, if he pitched all of his games at the Rate, he's expected to give up 2 less homers than he has given up this year.

At the very least, he will definitely eat innings and keep you in games, which is an improvement over Fedde and Schultz.

IMO, we need two starters. One who can slot in between Burke & Martin and give you a respectable 1-2-3 for the playoffs. The other needs to be an upgrade over Fedde, who gives you more innings to protect the bullpen, and hopefully can be an alternative for a game 4 in the playoffs alongside Kay.

To me, Ray is firmly in the latter camp. He’d help a ton down the stretch, but he doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence for the playoffs. It’s why I’ll keep screaming for adding both him & Detmers. I simply do not think Ray will cost all that much due to his salary, luxury tax impacts (which SFG eating money won’t help with), and peripherals that metric-oriented front offices won’t love.

Torrens has 2+ years of control. He’d actually be a great pairing with Teel, but you won’t like the cost if you’re worried rental SPs. His defense is so fucking good and the catcher market is legit constrained, so hit cost will likely be much higher than most here would want to pay. A rental C makes more sense IMO.

Less than 3 1/2 days from the deadline.

For reference, here are how many trades were made on the deadline and the week leading up to it last year:

  • July 31: 26

  • July 30: 12

  • July 29: 1

  • July 28: 3

  • July 27: 0

  • July 26: 2

  • July 25: 2

  • July 24: 1

Based on this, you can expect a couple trades today and tomorrow. On Sunday we should start seeing some real activity (last year there were some big ones) and then obviously the craziness will happen on Monday.

Let’s hope for some rumors / leaks these next two days and maybe even a small trade, but we should all probably remain patient until Sunday for the real action.

Ah man didn't have to go ruin my lazy work day today lol

We’re officially down to 4 1/2 days to the deadline. s%*# is going to pickup soon.

Some relevant SPs and when their next start is currently scheduled for:

  • Robbie Ray: Today

  • Freddy Peralta: Friday

  • Michael Wacha: Friday

  • Kevin Gausman: Saturday

  • Jose Soriano: Saturday

  • Clay Holmes: Sunday

  • Shane Bieber: Monday

  • Brady Singer: Tuesday

  • Reid Detmers: Tuesday

  • Seth Lugo: Tuesday

Hug watch formally kicks off today with Robbie Ray’s start which is scheduled for 8:40pm CST tonight. The Giants currently have their SP listed as TBD. Will be interesting to see if they actually let him make it.

Sounds like the Cardinals will be sellers, so add May to the list of potential options for us. He won’t pitch again before the deadline.

We’ll start getting beefier rumors today though!

I don’t want to see Detmers and Sox. I want to see Sox next to expiring starters who have been good but with big contracts that allow us to give minimal draft capital. If you give elite talent - be like Preller and go get elite talent back (not mediocre guys like Reid Detmer)

I don’t think Detmers is mediocre but the Angels are definitely going to be overpaid for his services soon.

Basically what the White Sox are mulling is Hagen,Tanner and Mason in the bullpen for the run. If they acquire a starter Fedde to the bullpen too.

I just read this article and conceptually adding Hagen & McDougal make sense. I’m just confused on how we add all three of those guys plus Fedde (potentially) from a tactical standpoint. In my mind, we have six relievers that are more or less roster locks in Taylor, Hicks, Dominguez, Hudson, Newcomb, & Murphy. I think Schweitzer is very much replaceable with one of McDougal or Smith. And Richards has been pretty solid as a mop-up guy and not sure if Fedde is even an upgrade (which is ok). Post-season roster wise, you can probably replace your long man with one of Smith or McDougal, although either guy would need some major league seasoning beforehand. Great ideas but hard to pull it all off.

I do wonder if there is an ability to do some buying and selling here. Would they sell one of their LH relievers in a constrained market (and replace with Hagen) to help offset part of the prospect cost needed to add a controllable SP? It’s going to be interesting to see what Getz does here because I keep hearing we are going to see more teams doing both buying & selling this year due to how limited certain markets are.

Hagen in the Sox bullpen right now…
