Maybe they go for a rental in Holmes and feel that Carlson will have more trade value in a year m, banking on him growing into more power.

Good question. I think many would say Bonemer is required, but just hard to value given injury history.

Ah ok - I was shocked by what Boston gave up, thinking he was a rental. That makes a little more sense now. Still a huge price.
