Like very low chance he is there for Saturday, right? I'll be there for the derby.. Seems like that would be too quick a rehab for how long he's been out. I imagine they hold him out through the all star game.

I think he is starting against Oakland it all goes well.

Mune expected to start at 1B but not play a full 9 innings yet today

Shane Smith going for WS

Edited by Autumn Dreamin

Three punch-outs and a 4 pitch walk for Shane Smith in the 1st.

Mixed bag in the second. Walk, some hard contact and 2 more strikeouts. Still shaking the rust off for sure.

I’ve seen enough - bring em up and apologize for the wasted trip to the east coast. 🤣

After the single, 2ks for Murakami. McDougal a hitless inning with 1w, 2k for AAA. 16p.

So he is pitching out of relief then?

Yes. 3 relief outings this week and then I think he could be in big league bullpen. Reliever for rest of season.

Makes a lot of sense to flip him with Eisert

Everyone has full confidence that he'll come to ST as a starter but he'll take too long to ramp up so he's useful in a bullpen role this year.

This is a byproduct of their inability to identify any pitching at all. Another starter they're moving to the bullpen. Can't think of another team treating their SP prospects like this.

Only because he got injured in this case though.

Bannister has been really disappointing. I feel like he came with a lot of hype as well.

Imagine if Martin and Burke hadn't made forward strides this season...

Not sure about this... Bannister has certainly gotten more out of the arms than their talent is worth. Their pitching staff getting better results than expected is a big part of this year. I think the issue is the new Sox regime is completely lost when it comes to identifying pitching talent.

I still have serious reservations about both. I think Burke at least has the arm talent to work it out, but seems hard to sustain success with one + pitch only. At least it's the fastball so there's some hope but everything else grades out pretty poorly.

Martin, by stuff metrics, doesn't have a single + pitch. He's definitely getting more out of the sum of his parts. I'm pretty skeptical of the sustainability of that.

And/or keeping them healthy...

Lots of similarities to Baltimore under Elias.
