100%. But maybe this started off as the Sox looking for a way to get the comp pick and then us & the Pirates (or another team) gradually worked out a major trade with more pieces including Gonzalez.

Pitching is so fucking random now. It's like you just pray like hell your analytics and sports performance guys can squeeze out a good staff unless you're like the Dodgers or Yankees. Good staffs exist, but the variance starter to starter is wild compared to when I was a kid 20-30 years ago.

Certainly a big factor. Draft picks are so hard to quantify. I recall Steve Cohen stating that draft picks are worth up to 5 times their slot value to clubs.
