This. Probably not picking very high in the draft for a bit after this one. It's why I'm a little less torn up about trading Gonzo than some other folks for a draft pick. The farm needs a huge influx of talent with a sustainability focus at this point, and they are in a position to do just that.

Obviously I've been team Emerson for months but it's likely not happening. I hope Roch Cholowsky has a stellar career with the White Sox.

When they acquired the additional pick I was kind of assuming a college arm somewhere early. Plenty to be had at 34. Maybe Radel.

I want Roch. The thing that sets him apart to me is that he was a fantastic QB in HS. He has the toughness and leadership skill that will fit perfectly on this team.

To me, he seems to be the safest pick. I personally would have been fine with Lackey.

I think Roch takes over at SS and Colson gets moved to primarily DH to save his back.

More likely he moves to 3B and Varags to 1b and Mune to DH.

Here are today’s slot values:

I’d expect at least $1.7M of savings on our first pick. We have $1M from the 5% overage and roughly $0.4M of potential savings if we go seniors with our 9th & 10th round selections. That’s $3.1M of additional dollars to work with.

Theoretically, we could allocate $1.4M to our 3rd pick and bump it up to $2.5M and take a very special talent. We could then bump our 4th & 5th round picks to the $1.5M range and get two more additional preps. That’s a six player class plus we’d still have full slot value in the 6th through 8th rounds that could go to college pitching.

It's the best plan long term, easily. I was against moving Colson but it's in the cards with Roch the guy here. Then you can save wear and tear on three sluggers and not lose much if anything defensively at SS. Makes too much sense.
