8 hours ago8 hr Starting this way too early 2027 draft thread to stake ownership. 🙂Baseball America has also posted a way too early mock for the 2027 class. It includes the top 10 picks. You will notice the White Sox are not a part of that. Let's hope it stays that way for the foreseeable future. Even if it means less draft fun. This is even more an exercise in futility than a normal mock draft—we don’t even know the draft order for these picks yet—but it’s also the norm for scouts to recognize the elite players in a given draft class years in advance. In last year’s way too early mock, for example, we had Roch Cholowsky and Grady Emerson lined up 1-2. Both players wound up going with those picks, but that’s less a credit to our prescience and more a testament of the special talents of both players. They were obvious picks at the time.Six additional players in our 2026 way too early mock became first rounders (Derek Curiel, Jacob Lombard, Gio Rojas, Justin Lebron, Liam Peterson and Tyler Spangler); one became a fourth-round pick (Kevin Roberts Jr.) and the 10th went undrafted (Brady Harris). The 2027 class might be more difficult to nail at the top compared to 2026, though California prep shortstop Dylan Seward seems to have separated himself on the high school side. The college class is a bit more muddled, with no Roch Cholowsky type leading the way, and more pitchers than hitters at the top of the board. The pick order below is based on the current draft lottery odds from Tankathon.1. Angels — Dylan Seward, SS, Norco (Calif.) HSSeward is a dynamic, explosive athlete who has a strong blend of tools and skills on both sides of the ball. He’s a switch-hitter with 80-grade speed and a swing that works from both sides of the plate with bat-to-ball skills. Seward also looks the part at shortstop with an above-average arm.2. Royals — Tomas Valincius, LHP, Mississippi StateValincius is the top lefthander in the class. He has an excellent combination of power stuff and advanced command, with a fastball in the mid 90s that has been up to 98 and a slider that looks plus. Valincius posted a 3.50 ERA in 17 starts and 97.2 innings with Mississippi State in the spring, then looked like the best arm with Team USA during the summer. 3. Rockies — Brendan Lawson, SS, FloridaLawson was an elite high school recruit who has lived up to his offensive expectations—and then some—in his first two seasons with Florida. He’s a physical lefthanded hitter with plus power and on-base skills and owns a career .315/.464/.602 slash line with 29 home runs. Lawson played shortstop every day for Florida in 2026, but he will need defensive improvement to stick there. 4. Mets — Dax Whitney, RHP, Oregon StateIf healthy, Whitney could easily rank as the top overall prospect in the class. He checks all the boxes scouts want to see of a potential front-of-the-rotation college pitching prospect, with elite velocity, several high-caliber secondaries, strong strike-throwing, a starter profile and collegiate dominance. His 2026 sophomore season ended after 11 starts because of a torn UCL that required surgery, which could wipe out his entire 2027 season. Even then, he could have the talent to fit inside the first 10 picks. 5. Athletics — Gavin Kelly, C/2B, West VirginiaKelly is an advanced pure hitter with a clean righthanded swing and solid swing decisions. He made a huge leap in power production as a sophomore, going from two home runs in 2025 to 19 in 2026, with a chance to handle multiple up-the-middle defensive positions. He split his time at catcher and second base in 2026. 6. Reds — Chris Levonas, RHP, Wake ForestLevonas has premium stuff headlined by a fastball that sits in upper 90s and has been up to 101 mph with great carry and extension. He has an assortment of strong secondaries, and dominated for Wake Forest as a full-time starter in 2026, when he posted a 2.82 ERA over 15 starts and 73.1 innings. His 38.9% strikeout rate was the fourth-best mark in the country among qualified Division I pitchers. 7. Tigers — Lubin Rincon, SS, The Bennett School, HoustonRincon was born in Venezuela but raised in the United States and now profiles as one of the top prep hitters in the class out of Texas. He has a lean build with a smooth lefthanded swing that’s compact with good barrel accuracy, and has tons of physical projection to dream about his doubles turning into home runs in the future. 8. Blue Jays — Jacob Seamon, OF, Metrolina Christian Academy, Indian Trail, N.C. Seamon is a young-for-the-class toolshed who will be 17 on draft day. He’s one of the most athletic players in the class, and has a chance to grow into 70-grade raw power, while also running plus times and potentially sticking in center field. He’s a longer-levered hitter, and as such he’ll need to manage his swing-and-miss tendencies. 9. Orioles — Landon Hairston, OF, Arizona StateHairston was the College Player of the Year after a monstrous 2026 season. He hit .400 with 28 home runs and 20 doubles and has some of the best hitting instincts in the class. He will need to hit and hit for power, because he’s likely a corner outfielder defensively. 10. Astros — Landon Mack, RHP, TennesseeMack is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound righthander who started his career with Rutgers, but transferred to Tennessee in 2026 where he pitched as a full-time starter and posted a 4.67 ERA in 12 starts. He added velocity and now sits in the mid 90s and has been up to 100 mph, with a swing-and-miss breaking ball in the mid 80s.
