July 16Jul 16 Those are my two favorite picks this class. Weingartner's hit tool might not get there but the upside is immense.

"Congratulations we are drafting you to be an Atlanta Brave! By the way we are going to pay you $500". They didn't get 500k, they each got 500 bucks. I think I might refuse to sign on principal and let them lose about 200k from their pool. I guess that ends your career but wow.I thought you were being facetious but just looked it up. They literally paid some college kids $500 bucks each. That’s just straight up shitty of them. Would it kill you to give them 10k each, let em take their family to a nice dinner and buy some new clothes or whatever?

Secondly you need to know what the $ value is so that you can offer #11 (and hopefully more picks 12-19) a firm amount. The implication being that 1-10 are done deals as well.So what happens if one of your, say, round 8 punts, decides to go back to school for a 5th year or just give up baseball rather than take the 10K. You lose the whole allotment? I would think the $500 Braves might be at risk.

July 17Jul 17 Atlanta Braves On SIBraves Set Record When Signing 2026 Draft ClassThe Atlanta Braves did what they had to do in order to put pen to paper on who they feel is a prime draft pick Edited July 17Jul 17 by caulfield12
July 17Jul 17 Braves did all that maneuvering with #1/2 and 8-10 ($1500) picks to go way over on slots 3/6/11But many had slotted AJ Gracia is the 20s.
July 17Jul 17 Honestly, they really should do away with the pool. All these senior signs getting nothing to manage pool space is kinda of a shitty way to bring these guys into pro baseball. They should have at least a 50% floor on slot value and maybe cap the bonus on day 2 picks so you can't go a million over on pick 11 and force a team to spend their full pool day 1.

July 17Jul 17 In 2020, there were only five rounds. How Cade Smith ended up going as an udfa to the Guardians.Somehow the players that belong in the big leagues always find a way.

July 19Jul 19 1 hour ago, Autumn Dreamin said:what jumps out at me is the amount that these players signed over-slot: Casteel (11) for $1.1M over, Weingartner (6) for nearly $1M over, and Prosek (3) for $800k over. On the other hand, Roch signed for $1M under and Thome signed for $400k under. Aside from getting the extra pick, what factor did the extra money obtained from the Pirates trade play in allowing the Sox to draft and sign all the the players they wanted? Also, why did the 11th round pick sign for such a large bonus ($1.25M). If it's because he's highly ranked, why didn't one of the other 29 teams nab him in the first 10 rounds?
