Kyle Teel ankle injury

I think he was in a position where catching the ball was his 1st priority cant make a tag without the ball and he doesn't have an infielder glove so short hops arent easy.

So you agree with exactly what I said, since you just rephrased it. He was up on his feet, and went down to make the play, just like I said. Why are you still so mad? How many hours a day do you waste mad about my posts? It's insane how much time you put into me. It's almost like...

I am watching this play in which Teel gets hurt and I'm reading that the problem is Teel got on his knees to block the ball. But I am watching the play and neither knee touches the ground until after his toe has already caught in the dirt. Kratz clearly says the problem is Teel got on his knees to receive the ball. Maybe Kratz meant something different, but Teel did not get on his knees to catch the ball. He was very much on his toes like Kratz prescribes.

I think Teel's plan was to basically dive to apply the tag after he went up the line to make his own hop on the throw. Because his foot stuck, there's still something of a dive, but the left knee has to hit the ground right away because that's how the physics work.

So anyway, I can't take what Kratz said seriously. Maybe he meant the opposite of what he said. That happens to me sometimes. My gut feeling is he's doing a bunch of these hits every day, didn't really watch the play or forgot what he saw, and he said something incorrect due to being mistaken about what happened.

Whose fault is the injury? IDK. I think it's mostly a comedy of errors starting with a random event. Teel pulls a hamstring. This is a thing that happens to people. Some more than others, for sure, and there are some things you can do to reduce (but not eliminate) risk. Given the timing of Teel's hamstring injury, it probably meant that he never got the exact physical preparation for the season that he or the Sox planned for. He reinjures the leg in a different location during the rehab. Again, somewhat flukey but his body was compromised already so it's plausible that there's a bit of a domino effect at play. Research shows that high-level athletes reinjure their lower body at an over 50% rate in the season that they pull a hamstring, not always severely of course. On the most recent play, Teel hurts the other leg in a pretty weird play. I can't draw the line directly from the hammy to this ankle problem, but it wouldn't shock me if the overall condition of his body is just not ideal because of this cycle of rest + recovery, ramp up, peak effort, reinjury, rest, etc.

Is Teel injury-prone? IMO, you need at least a couple seasons that involve major injuries before you get there. But the best predictor of future injury is past injury, so I'll certainly be a little worried until I see Teel go for a while without new problems. I think it's funny how much commentary has talked about him bulking up too much when I would have anticipated that the commentary would instead be that it's a cautionary tale about investing in small-bodied catchers. Maybe we don't know much about this stuff.

A year ago, we thought we were set at catcher. Sox had 2 good young catchers.
Now one has had a significant deterioration in performance and the other has been hurt (and also has a downturn in performance).

Could happen anywhere.
Just hope these 2 guys get it together on defense.

Once again you are absolutely out of your mind, making asinine assumptions about what I'd do.

This is at least the third time you've done this and you even apologized once for it in a personal DM.

Let me repeat for the last f$%^&*( time, I'd LOVE for the Sox to make the playoffs, three, four, five years in a row.

I be THRILLED even if they didn't win s%*# because to me having a winning season and potentially making the post season makes that season a good one.

Are we clear now doofus? I'm really getting tired of your nonsense.

Calm down, grandpa. I'm not making any assumptions about you. I'm talking to Green Line about using positive hypotheticals, and I'm literally clarifying what SoCal said.

Is that clear enough for you?

When a guy is repeatedly suffering soft tissue injuries it is absolutely fair to wonder if either A, the guy is just fragile (it happens), or if there is something not right in their training, especially if it happens to a lot of different players.

In this specific case, you can see his cleat stick in the clay. It's really obvious. Something like that would hurt just about anyone. When your body tries to go one way, and your foot does not, there are a million tendons and ligaments in the foot that can, and do, tear. This is more likey a problem with footing, or cleats being too long, or most likely, just a random... s%*# happens, kind of event.

Older guy calling another older guy “grandpa”? Don’t be ageist AND hypocritical at the same time!

How do I obtain my "get to be jokey" certification around here?

How’s that pitching development team “blossoming” lately?

At least youre not refuting anything I said which only goes to show you pick and choose when to hate on Getz. Do you expect perfection now after less than a year ago hating on everything you could ? You know as well as I do that most of the pitching they picked up dumpster dives, roster churn moves and Hudson and now Hicks have been very strong , Taylor has improved from last year,Burke has too as has Martin. They got Houser to work out and got Mead for him and Boston for Mead. Of course Houser changed it around right before the Sox picked him up. They got lucky and TX was the dummies right ? They have got decent value from Fedde twice.

Schultz is close to 23 now ? OMG he's washed up. Shane Smith was a great pickup until he regressed. So was Vasil until he got injured.

Yet there are those who still happily rip the Sox a new one about Mead or rip Gonzo to shreds until they traded him and now it becomes they could've used him for a starting pitcher he's was so valuable. Didn't Callis say the he thought the Pirates overpaid ?

Getz is only about to reach his 1st 3 years as GM on August 31st. Still churning the roster but less room at the inn.

What in my posts looks angry to you. It was about as clinical assesment as you can get. First you put words in my mouth saying oh so you think the Sox are not ocoahing him properly which I never said of course. ANd now you say I am mad when there is no indication at all that i was. There's no caps no exclamation points and no calling you an idiot and a liar .

Getz was in charge of PD. It's honestly incredible the hoops people will jump through.

Getz has given the reigns to some smarter people in the draft room and so far they've drafted better on the positiom player side, and the one time he got involved we got Hagen Smith instead of the future #1 prospect in baseball.

Getz Gets all the PD credit when it's not his actual job and none of the blame from when it was his actual job lol

Hey asswipe, why did you make the comment about me not being happy if the Sox went to the playoffs multiple times yet didn't win anything?

I bolded the part for you remember? You brought my name in to something and made an assumption about me.

Reading is a skill.

You need to get better at reading the sarcasm of my second sentence in that post. 😉

I didn’t rip on either the Mead or Gonzalez trades. I believe I said the Mead trade only sucks in hindsight and in case Murakami leaves via free agency. Mead would have been a nice fallback option to take over 1B, but I can see the reason he was traded before opening day. He didn’t hit at all last year once they acquired him and earn his roster spot. They also had to dump him for something since he was out of options.

Jacob G was a calculated move. We’ll see if it pays off on the prospect side for the future versus what his own talent would have provided to the team.

There is still some concern about the drafting and development of pitching. These guys are absolutely walking the world, and that just won’t fly in the majors.

Again, as I've already explained I was paraphrasing somebody else. I've personally apologized to you when I felt it was warranted. This time, it's not.
