To be fair, I've done some analysis on this (my day job is in statistics so baseball lets me flex the same muscles). By the numbers, you should generally trust the typical platoon splits over the player's splits unless and until you have very clear and compelling evidence to the contrary. That said, a pitcher with surprising splits is more likely to continue to have surprising splits than a hitter who is overwhelmingly likely to be experiencing small sample size luck.
