7 hours ago7 hr Fans don’t really care about “positively spinning” accounting mumbo jumbo. That’s how they ended up sending E.Johnson and Tatis, Jr. to SD in the first place. And both for declining “Big Game/Name” pitchers in Shields and Castillo with obviously diminishing performance/crispness of stuff/peripherals.

Be honest in the assessment though. Not mentioning Seranthony Dominguez is disingenuous. They took on Castillo's money but they got rid of Dominguez and his salary within the scope of the deal. It's like $12-13 million for Castillo in 2027 essentially and he'd probably get close to that on the open market still.Keith Law didn't write it. It was someone named Johnny Flores Jr. I couldn't find him or I would've tagged him.But that’s simply not true. The Sox are paying Castillo $22.75 million of their payroll for next season. You are basically excusing Getz for making the poor decision to give big money to a mediocre reliever for two years. He also supposedly paid for Seranthony’s $2 million buyout. So yes, Getz was able to dump Seranthony’s bad contract but that doesn’t mean Castillo will only cost $12-13 million next season. Edited 5 hours ago5 hr by WhiteSox2023

So the math to get to that $12-13M next season is the same as this season (pro-rated at this point of course).

Also, with every move being for a non-rental it seems like these deadline acquisitions were pretty much half of Getz’s work for next offseason.

He did what he needed to do to get by, with the full rationale that the best days are still ahead and not to spend too much.

But as some point, the broadcast has to give the audience some credit. Yesterday, they made it seem like Castillo would be competing for Cys while he was getting lit up, just as he has been all season.

That level of performance has now gone out the door, and you've obtained someone else at a different position. The costs themselves don't off-set, and no one would say Castillo now is only making 13 million which is "what he'd get on the open market."If you wanted to trade Castillo, you need to move the whole 23 million meaning the market won't trade you for him because he doesn't actually cost 13 million that is being claimed to be his real cost "in line with the market."

How you want to value the performances for those dollars is a completely different story. I think the opinion is that both players were vastly underperforming their deals, which isn't exactly earthshattering.

This implication that Dominguez is worth zero dollars so his entire salary is an off-set is tough to accept. The Sox lost the player they valued as a 10 million/yr player 6 months ago. That's not some net monetary gain that limits the cost of Castillo on the open market. This is fair. I don't care how much Castillo makes. I care about how much Jerry Reinsdorf would be willing to spend on the 2027 team. Castillo at $23 million with Dominguez at $10 million is different than Castillo at $23 million and Seranthony Dominguez off the team with no salary committed. That was my basic point. I'm shocked that anyone took Dominguez. 3 hours ago, WhiteSox2023 said:But that’s simply not true. The Sox are paying Castillo $22.75 million of their payroll for next season. 48 minutes ago48 min Dominguez was actually pitching much better in recent weeks...outside the closer's role, which was never a good fit, just like it's not Brazoban's place, either. On the open market, he would probably get at least $6-8 million. You'd have to really be VERY kind to possibly imagine anyone giving Luis Castillo more than $13-15 million as a FA (if he didn't have a guaranteed contract for next year)...unless those $150-160 million payroll floors become a reality.

I wasn't being honest/ignored context about what you were talking about when you said "journalism was dead" and you're right that Keith Law didn't write that. I don't want to lie or purposely misconstrue what you said since you have a reputation and this is part of your career, so my apologies. The one issue I did have, however, is your tweet about how all these Sox fans who have never seen Boston Smith or Mason Adams play were convinced they shouldn't be moved, and that discourse is crazy. The large majority of fans haven't seen these guys play. The diehards have seen highlights, look at box scores and keep up with the various prospect publications. At the same time, publications like FutureSox HAVE been pumping up these 2 guys up for how they have been playing and the improvements they have made. Then the second they get traded, they are just some low level prospects and fans are getting mocked for caring about them getting moved.
