I know you already looked at this already, but If we're talking scouting report, he throws his sinker on 2-2 just ~18% of his career/this year. Meanwhile his change usage is at 67% on 2-2. If youre sitting on a pitch there, you're likely sitting change. There's not going to be too much change in profile between the two there, but important distinction regardless. That second picture also does not do it justice. He hit that ball at his ankles. Really a nasty pitch. Regardless of all that, I dont think youre going to get any story from just a single pitch.

All I'm saying is that once in a while there's a team that looks to be totally out of the race in the first couple of months and then catches fire and soars to the World Series and Boston looks like they fit that pattern. Nothing is guaranteed.

As far as the Cubs go - yeah, they still have to get past Milwaukee. But lots of teams make it to the WS without winning their division. Unless you think they won't make it as a wild card?

.....I'll also add that the 2021 Braves are the most recent example of this. They were under .500 at the break and then totally caught fire and ended up winning the WS. We've seen these kind of teams before. Boston reminds me of this, but of course, they play the games for a reason.....anything can happen.

I will admit Red Sox have a horse shoe up there you know what right now…but I tip my cap. They are hot…it happens and move on. The meatball changeup was the 9th inning pitch to have back and that sinker…tip your cap…that said I also wouldn’t be surprised either as it did seem like they knew what was coming but that could also be Sox pitching predictable

Sadly this is why this topic—which would have been treated as totally ridiculous conspiracy theorizing in the pre-Astros era—is something you have to consider. MLB incentivized cheating with its flaccid response to the Astros scandal. I’m surprised we haven’t seen it more, and I sadly will never dismiss cheating allegations out of hand again.

Every team uses pitchcom, which is a simple device that uses UHF to send likely encrypted signals from the catcher to the pitcher.

There's a device you can buy online, it's been around for years, it's called the flipper zero. it can intercept any radio signal, such as 2.4ghz RF, Bluetooth, Wifi, UHF(with an extra module) , encrypted or unencrypted etc and store each signal as it's own profile. people use these to steal your key fob frequencies, among other things.

you could save each pitchcom input from the catcher as it's own "pitch profile", and just find out which signal corresponds to what pitch

It would be insanely easy for someone on the Red Sox (or any team) to have someone in the stands relaying signals to each batter immediately after intercepting the pitchcom information from the catcher.

I can't find any info on if pitchcom uses rolling codes or not, I would assume it does. however with AI tools, and people building their own portable "cyber deck" (basically a tiny Linux powered laptop with the hardware capable of RF scanning, people have been using these to access flock cameras), I'm not sold on pitchcom being unhackable at all

Yeah, that’s why my son couldn’t unlock newer car doors with the Flipper Zero. Because they went to rolling code key fobs in the mid 1990’s.
