Catchers, Catchers, Anywhere?

How soon do they need to figure out the 40-man, active roster move? I'd assume when he shows up which I doubt would happen today?

He has familiarity with the Tigers pitching staff so maybe they do try and make a move today?

It's a waiver claim, he has to be put on the 40-man, so someone is getting cut.

They can put someone on the 60 day

Haha, this move was obvious.

And apparently the Sox didn’t think Joe Rock was much better to keep around than Wikelman Gonzalez. That was still an odd decision.

Please tell me this is the end of Romo

I wonder what the franchise record is for the most catchers on the active roster in a season? What are we at now?

McGuire

Quero

Romo

Teel

Bart

Rogers

The biggest question is…

Is Jake Rogers still rocking the 70’s pornstache or did he shave it off?

Rogers has a .199 lifetime BA. There were far better catchers available before the trade deadline if Getz was serious about helping this team compete for an AL Central Championship. And of course another starter could have been had. Hold on to those prospects Getz. Maybe they will turn into the likes of the Minor league pitchers we are seeing come up and fail.

And currently 5 on the 40-man.

At least he acquired Bart, even though it didn’t work out. But yeah, these are the scraps you are left with at catcher post deadline. I still think not acquiring a second starter was the far worse decision.

.70 points higher then Romo .........I consider that an upgrade

Well, yeah. But Bart broke his hand

I still think I'd rather have Quero around than Romo, but I have a feeling Quero will be booking a ticket to Charlotte shortly.

It's funny how people wanted Getz to trade Bonemer, Carlson and others, but wail at the loss of Boston Smith and Mason Adams. Is there a mystery cache of top prospects that we've never heard of, but would have gotten every top player on the market in trade?

It was a good addition but I believe Tray was expecting a better catcher acquisition than Bart. If it was the 2024 version of Bart we were getting, that injury would look even worse.

Not a catcher, no, and I was fine with the Bart acquisition. It just didn’t work out due to a random injury.

However, Getz obviously had the prospects to trade for a rental starter, even after the Castillo trade. It doesn’t appear that Getz ever considered rentals since he even mentioned the additional year(s) of control for all the players he acquired at the deadline. He pretty much said it himself.

That was the mistake.
