Rest of Season Rotation

Featured Replies

Fedde has to start out of necessity. I don't think he was bad as a bullpen arm, but the Sox don't have many bullets for the starting rotation. If the playoffs started today, Anthony Kay is your 2 and Sean Burke is your 1. That's insane.

What's more insane is my thoughts - Go full blown youth and supplement with age.

Fedde

Smith

Burke

Martin

Kay

Use Schulz as a swing guy at this point. Sox must pick up starting pitching the hour they are eliminated from the playoffs. They simply can't do this going into next year. I would trade Colson for a starter if I could. if Seattle didn't have Colt Emerson, I would think they would be interested.

If the Sox go even .500 the other teams have to on a run that just none of them seem capable of. People need to take a step back a little.

They have 3 days off between now and the end of the season, I don’t think these guys want to jam one or both of the cubs games into one of those days off It’s pretty disappointing that even in this s

@JoeCredeYes do the thing before the board Cubs fan does the other thing.

Sox in the postseason in the postseason is like the Jamaican Bobsled team winning the bronze. It's nice but they are not ready.

Every team reloads in the off-season. There is no guarantee that the Sox will get beck to where they are now next season or perhaps not for years to come. Getz and JR should have went for it. They didn't.

One thing's for sure in my mind, even if he's struggling, Venable has to stop wasting Castillo start days. Let him get lit up for 20 for all i care if it helps the bullpen the next few days. That, or stack the bullpen with nothing but starters.

First off they may not even make the playoffs, second given the labor situation and JR's "fiscal philosophy" when it comes to pitching I wouldn't be shocked in the least if they didn't do a damned thing this off season, if there is even one, regarding the starting pitching situation.

We also have to see if Urquidy can sustain even a fraction of what he showed against the Cubs.

Question answered as far as I’m concerned.

Pitching Options:

Shane Smith

Jose Urquidy

Drew Thorpe

Thorpe is really our only hope remaining IMO for the time being.

That’s a great analogy. 😆

I could see a miracle 1% version where everything clicks but the most likely outcome is them getting 2020ed in 3.

I'll add this since I just brought this up before I saw it. For the sake of discussion I guess.

I think there will be teams dumping players for the last month to save a couple of bucks. Even teams like StL and Pitt which are 5 & 7.5 back might be ready to toss in the hat. on 9/1.

Martin will be back 8/28, he could be a huge help if he can keep it together.

9/1 I think Thorpe will be called up, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox let Acuna go.

a police officer is standing in front of a crowd and says remain calm all is well folks

Our bullpen is taxed and we need help badly.

I would bring up Thorpe and let him take Urquidy's place.

I would bring up Schultz and send schweitzer down (I know he only has one more option left) and make Schultz the long guy.

I would also find a fake injury to Brazoban and bring someone else up who can eat innings.

Hopefully martin comes back end of the month and begins to look somewhat like the 1st half Martin.

Hopefully we don’t have to deal with looking up at Cleveland or Minnesota for even a day. That would be the ultimate red alert panic all hell breaking loose. 😆

Why does he need a rehab start?

For those who have asked “But who should have Getz targeted?” while I’ve continued to criticize his lack of ambition in seeking a second starting pitcher at the deadline:

I’ve answered this before. Foster Griffin has been my response.

Nobody can argue that we wouldn’t have been capable of beating the crap package the Indians set out to Washington for him.

He may end up being the difference in the AL Central title this year.

Didn’t have the pitching prospects needed to trade

Meh - they could have easily provided a more appealing package.

Like who? I think people have overrated the farm system. All of the guys are playing on the big league roster. The revolving door of talent isn't happening here yet. So few teams have that. Then we ignore what a GM may want.

We can bring up all sorts of scenarios and then there is reality.

What does Mike Vasil do for a living though?
