If I had to guess, our starting pitching since the all star break is averaging less than 5 innings per start (non opener games). This is where the Smiths, Schultz, McDougal and Sandlin having bad years is brutal on the depth.

What do we have to lose letting Sandlin and Thorpe have a chance in the rotation?

That’ll happen when your main catcher who’s supposed to be an anchor in the lineup and in the field is hurt for the majority of the season, and when the backup you thought was going to be good isn’t even on the roster when the main guy is hurt after bringing in two other catchers.

After the last two long nights I'm fortunate that I'll be at my surgeons office this afternoon for the follow up to the rotator cuff surgery I had on August 6. I'll feel a lot better not following this one.

Who knows, maybe they won't urinate away another lead after the 7th inning like the last two nights.

I hear you but to be fair as I've posted before, Getz never in his wildest dreams, expected the team to be in this position this season. He probably thought it was going to be another development season, maybe win 75 gams so nothing really was done this past off season.

Now throw in the Sox unable to keep pitchers healthy anymore, JR refusing to pay the going rate to good pitchers and this is where you are at.

That being said Getz may ultimately have to take the blame for not doing more at the deadline. Although we don't know what was being asked for pitchers or what JR allowed him to do regarding the payroll.

This isn’t negligence at all. This was a developmental year that surprised every one of us by being competitive. Not one person on this site was thinking playoff rotation in March, we all were thinking about gaining innings and flip candidates

This is rough but honestly gutting the minors for a mild chance at running through the playoffs was not a choice I would have made either, and I was excited for the deadline.

You're wrong. Getz thought this team would contend this year. The only other person who thought this team would contend is me.

Question for the doctors and physical therapists on the board: if Schultz can’t use his optimal mechanics due to his leg/knee issues, is that something they could fix with a minor surgery?

If they weren’t competitive, Schultz would still be here trying to figure it out, they probably would have given Smith a shot too, possibly MacDougal too. And none of us would care Schultz was struggling like that because it was developmental. Being competitive changed everything.
