13 games into this intense 16 game stretch without an off day, they are managing a winning record so far.

It can make for a stressful watch, but being able to win a series vs. a hot team while playing less than their best baseball is still a positive.

Detroit was swept by KC and look nearly finished. Twins were also swept by SD with their new BP arms getting lit up today. Guards managed to win consecutive games for the first time in a month while sweeping the Rockies.

That leaves our Sox 3.5 up with CLE and their baby soft schedule back to being the closest threat.

As far as the hitting issues, you're best guys strike out a ton, they have low batting averages. That combination almost results in a 'home run or nothing' situation. That's not good.

I don't have an answer except maybe with time they'll get better as they get more experience at the big league level.

Today's batters are facing velocity with so many pitchers giving max effort on every pitch. The pitchers are not as guarded because they know TJ surgery is an industry expectation.

We were awful this whole series its a minor miracle we won 2 out of 3. Props to Fedde, Hagen, Clutch Benny and Tristan Peters.

But it's also true that if you at least can put the ball in play good things can happen. If you have a lot of strike outs, well...nothing can happen except maybe a dropped third strike.

The batting averages of Vargas, Muni and Colson are now .246, .223 and .213 respectively...I mean that's not good at all.

Makes you appreciate even more what guys like Thomas, Konerko, Ordonez, Lee and Valentin did in the early 00's. They hit a ton of home runs and also had good batting averages.

If you put the ball in play it can be a DP. If you K with 1 out you have another hitter to try. Thomas was one of the greatest RHH in baseball history. Sox don't have a guy like that now.

I'd take it more seriously if you were telling me their wRC+ or wOBA was bad instead of their batting avg.

If we get swept by Cleveland, we essentially lose 4 games in the standings. 3 from the sweep, 1 from the tiebreaker.

If we win 1 in the Cleveland series, we essentially lose 0 games in the standings. Minus 1 if we lose 2 of 3, but plus 1 for clinching tiebreaker.

1 win in that series sort of equals 4 games in the standings.

Or is my math/logic bad?

Newcomb hasn't given up an earned run in 12.1 innings. in those 8 games the Sox are 6-2.

Taylor had a streak going back to July 4th of 22.1 innings that ended today. in those 16 games the Sox were 12-4.

Since 6/21 in 22 games covering 21.1 IP Jordan Hicks is 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA & 1.82 FIP with 32K & 8 BB. Also has 5 holds in that span and 1 blown save. Sox were 10-12 in his 22 games

I really want one of the Sox x Hot Ones hats and sweatshirts but being broke in California hurts those chances 😆
