Not that im saying Raf or Giambi didn't take steroids. But when you get older, you get bigger.

Heres something for you.  What if Palmeiro is released?  Is it worth it to pick him up?

For the league minimum, does a good job of replacing Franks bat in the lineup...

I could care less if he's on steriods, coke, smack, extasty, if he could help us win a championship i'd say welcome aboard...

Maybe I just want a Sox would series that darn bad that I'd even be willing to sign scum like this if they could hit....

See, that's where we differ...I want to win a title, but if it takes cheating to get there, I don't want it that badly.

You think the Yankees or Red Sox care about that... They'd sign him in a heart beat... Especially the Yankees... I want to win now period... We can sort out the how we won later... But once we win thats something no one can take away from us...

The Yankees are exactly the example of why I don't want a guy like that and why I do care how we win. I don't want to win by being like the Yankees. I just like a little honor and dignity in the way my teams win...instead of going out and buying the most juiced-up player available.

Anywho, I actually doubt either team would sign him...both teams are loaded with 1b/DH players. (Olerud, Millar, Ortiz, Giambi, Martinez)

I agree. I wouldnt want him either. Just another area the media could attack my beloved team.

but for the most part yes.

not for the most part either. the majority of people do not experience the drastic body changes that Palmeiro, McGwire, Sosa, and Giambi quite obviously went through

I wonder if the league decided not to make this known until today so that it would not be part of the national TV broadcast last night? Also, horrible press for Major League Baseball with the 3,000 hits, etc.

Does anyone know exactly when he was tested?

If I'm voting for Palmeiro's induction in the HOF he wouldn't be admitted.

There needs to be a clear stance on this steroid issue. Sure, Bonds/McGuire/Sheffield/Giambi are probable steroid users, but they've yet to test positive under any MLB administered program. Can only work with those who've been caught.

His guady numbers (500 HR/3000 hits) are now in question with his positive results. How can anyone be sure which statistics were legitimate and those which may have been aided by steroids? You can't. Although a Palmeiro apologist may suggest that's why you can't fault him. But IMO, you can't give him any lienency. There has to be a point where we quick dicking around with speculating on "when/how much did he take it" or whether "the steroid testing doesn't erase his career achievements." Yes, it does. Admit it.

Now to tackle the excuses we're all bound to hear.

1. I won't, and hope many of you share similar feelings, believe Palmeiro ONLY used steroids after the congressional hearings.

2. I won't believe Palmeiro accidentally ingested an illegal substance. For a player due to be under added scrutiny, you'd have to be one dumb bastard to believe you'd get away with it. Even Sosa's excuse of mishandling his bats is more believeable than this bulls***.

BUT "The hearings and the proximity to end of his career only proves he didn't do it. Why would he risk it!!!"

I would like to know why not. Buehlre hitting Surhof today was perfect because it didn't make much sense. 2 outs, 1 on base in a one-run game, Buehlre could proclaim his innocence because, "why would he want to put more on base in a close game."

Palmeiro may have thought his stance on steroids gave him immunity. Or he used a steroid not listed as a banned substance and thought the system could be beaten. OR he tested earlier in the season and MLB held out the notice until his achievements were met. He cheated, regardless, and should be punished.

A quote from Robert DeNiro in "Casino" applies to this issue and sums up my thoughts:

"Listen, if you didn't know you're [cheating], you're too f***in' dumb to keep this job. If you did know, you were in on it. Either way, you're out!"

The rumor is just prior to the AS Break.

Took me awhile to figur out why you posted that :lolhitting

Bruce Wolf was talking about this during the sports news on 97.9 and claims that a reliable source said that what Raffy tested positive for isn't something that could "accidentally" get into his body.

I don't know how much I trust Bruce Wolf, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I read a few interesting things in the paper today.

Creatine is banned by MLB, wow didn't know that.

Mark B. said Sox players bring in any supplement to the training staff for analysis before they take anything. He said since so many things can make a test go positive, they just analize everything first. He thinks Raffy is clean, FWIW.

I guess some over the counter supplements contain very low levels of steroids that are not listed on the labels but would show up on a test.
