ok so its been a while now, and it may finally be setting in that the sox won it all, and i was curious and bored so i was thinkin....which sox pitcher had the best performance in the postseason? in all honesty my pick is garland in game 3 vs. the angels. he gave up 2 runs, but he really dominated teh angels that game. The only runs were on the cabrera homer, which was actually a good pitch, off the corner inside. 2nd might be buerhle in game 2 vs. angels and el duque vs. bosox is up there too. what do you guys think?

I still that the Jenks in the entire postseason was PHENOMENAL. He was a good throw by Pods away from being the WS MVP. Think about the tough saves he had to get in the postseason.....the two inning save in Game 2 vs Boston, Game 3 vs Boston where he couldn't allow a runner on base with Ortiz coming up, the Game 1 of the WS masterpiece, pitching in the extras in Game 3 of the WS, and then the clutch Game 4 of the WS save.

 

Not bad for our top prospect, huh?

Let me propose Bobby Jenks.

 

I know it's unconventional to place a closer in this context, but 1) you could argue that Garland, Garcia, and Contreras were all stellar--at least at times--in the post-season.

 

What about Jenks, though, coming in on consecutive nights from the pen in the WS (and not just pitching a couple of outs either) and shutting hitters down when we needed it the most.

eh he blew 1 game no love for Jenks....

 

 

Garland was really dynamite in the post-season actually.... against Angels like someone else said he owned them and the only runs he gave up were more bad luck than him making a mistake.

 

Than against the Astro's Uribe kind of screwed him that game but he still settled down and kept us in it.

Buehrle in Game 2 and Garcia in Game 4 of the W.S. are tied for me.

Gets overlooked, and for good reason, but Garcia in Game 4 of the WS was money. Backe made us look bad, but Freddy went punch for punch with Backe, and lived up to being a "Big Game" pitcher.

Buehrle in Game 2 of the ALCS takes the cake for me. The offense was horrible, and yet he single handedly kept us in the game for all 9.

Though it may not have been the most important, I think the most outstanding performance was El duque in boston.

That may have been the most nervewracking 15 minutes of my life and I loved every minute of it.

The duke takes this easily for me.

el duque couldnt have been bigger, it was a huge momentum performance

as for the world series, Freddy game 4 was as good as it gets

Man, this is a TOUGH one for me. So many outstanding performances from our staff. My top 3 go as this.

 

1: Buehrle in game two against the Angels.

2: Garland in game three against the Angels

3: Garcia in game 4 against the Astros.

Contreras' first inning in game 1. They get a blooper for a double, but he gets out Ortiz and Manny in big spots, and I think that set the tone, and we all know what happened next. Really JC in every game 1. Setting the tone was huge. Lots of pressure for a guy that most people wanted to get rid of at the break.

I'll also throw out the game 1 in the ws performance by Neal and Bobby.

Well said. If not for Rowand foolishly playing as deep as he was on Bagwell, it never even comes down to Pods weak ass throw.

El Duque's performance by far was the best individual performance. All the starters pitched some great games, but it is hard to beat getting out of a bases loaded, no out jam on the road in the playoffs vs the defending champs.

I would pick either El Duque or Contreras. Also Bobby Jenks would have to be given some consideration since the Sox brought him up from AA ball in July and next thing we knew he pulled off the biggest save in White Sox history in game 4 of the World Series.

It's nice to have so many to choose from, but Duque's performance was the stuff of legends. Years from now people will talk about it when a pitcher comes in with the bases loaded and nobody out.

There were some great starts, don't get me wrong, but the whole post season could have changed based on Hernandez's outing in the ALDS. That might have been the most incredible inning of pitching I can ever remember.

I give all the credit in that moment to AJP. You could tell that El Duque didnt want to throw those breaking balls, but AJ went to the mound, told Duque what to throw, and he got them out. You can see Duque fist bump AJP after the first pop up.

I thought we were talking about just starters. If we're talking performances as a whole, then yes, El Duque's was easily #1.
