VH1 is debuting their top 100 songs of the 90s this week (at least, I think it's new).

Iam really hoping that i will enjoy the Mars volta's new album that comes out next month. They are a band that always has the potential to make one of my all time favorite albums or something that I cant even stand listening to more than a few times through.

Liz Phair was really annoying in her interview. It really seems like she's saying 'f-off' to the fans that made her career for a large part of a decade.

The breeders song on there was cool, and the getto boys song. I love these countdowns.

I remember a lot of good records in the 90s, and I'm not seeing many of them represented here.

These are going to be songs that were very pervasive in pop culture as opposed to an actual 100 greatest songs list. It's all fun. You can check your serious music fan card at the door.

Or I can just pass on the 100 Steaming Piles.

Which I'll do, because bad music's not fun to me, the Card-Carrying Serious Music Fan.

i'm just saying I doubt VH1's 100 greatest songs of the 90's is going to be the definitive list.

i made my top ten albums. I didn't order them.

I didn't hear Jens Lekman, Battles except for their singles, BRMC Caribou or New Pornographers album.

I'll divide it into two categories because I figure it's two different discussions. Rap and Everything else

Top 10 Hip Hop albums i listened to in 2007 (mixtapes, eps and LPs)

Little Brother - Get Back

Dizzee Rascal - Math + English (pussy'ole is so great, and wheres da g's is tops)

MIA - KALA (probably the best follow up i could have imagined and maybe my favorite of the year)

Devin the Dude - Waitin to Inhale

Wu-Tang Clan - 8 diagrams

Ghostface Killah - The Big Doe Rehab

Kanye West - Can't Tell Me Nothin' mixtape

Kanye West -THe Graduation

Daft Punk - Alive 2007 - made parties enjoyable in b/w lessons of soulja boy f***MOTHERf***ER

Japanther - Skuffed up my Huffy : these guys are probably way too comfortable being a new york opening band and it kind of pisses me off in a way but doesn't work me up enough to request their show here or anything.

Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay friends

Liars - Liars - as much as I liked drum's not dead, if this record would've sounded slow like that I wouldn't have listened

Lupe Fiasco is amazing.

And no The Cool, bmags? Really? It has to be by far the best rap album of 2007.

i kind of thought it was 2008. That is why.

I'll take that into consideration for future lists.

Thank you. I will send you my 250 song playlist. You may choose from that. :D

Iam not sure if this should be in the films thread, but does anyone respect Dewey Cox's music in Walk hard?I thought it was great if you can get past some of the silly lyrics. The music is what made the movie because except for a couple parts it wasnt that funny.

Yo La Tengo is good.

"I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass" is a fun album.

I don't really know if its been said in here yet (I assume it has since its been released for awhile), but I'm enjoying the new Cake CD. There are some songs that I'm less than thrilled about, but the inclusion of War Pigs (twice!) and Mahna, Mahna more than make up for them.

The new Mountain Goats cd "Heretic Pride" leaked. It sounds great

Hey, wanna hear something absolutely awful?

What the f*** happened to these guys???

Someone get them a bottle of anything.....and a glazed donut.....TO GO!

:D

it was an acoustic BENEFIt show - get off it. Also, the acoustic version of Disposable Heroes rules.

I disagree about any of it "ruling", but it's nice that they played for charity.

In my opinion, no band has fallen further from their height than Metallica, with the possible exception of the Goo Goo Dolls and Aerosmith. Not in terms of popularity or sales, but in terms of my enjoyment of what they do. Metallica was my favorite band by a long shot (bad pun intended :) ), but that seems like forever ago now.

I still listen to their old CDs Critic. I'm not into alot of these newer bands these days. But I know what your saying. They're still awesome though.

Oh yea, Lupe Fiasco is the s***. That is all.

So it's O.K. to play complete crap material for a benefit? Cool.

(though I would say that no matter what they played it would be crap material...Metallica has always sucked)

I hear ya - I still have a lot of pre-Black Album Metallica on the iPod, and when the shuffle hits it, I like to hear that stuff again.

I don't go seeking it out, though. You couldn't pry their cassettes out of the boombox back in the Mullet Era, but now their CDs have 3 inches of dust on them.

I don't know Lupe Fiasco, so I can't say if he (or she, or they) is THE s***, or just s***.

;) :D
