News keeps getting worse for Denise Helms, the 22-year-old California woman whose racist, threatening Facebook status about President Barack Obama went viral this week. Helms has since been fired from her job at a Turlock, Calif., Cold Stone Creamery, and the Secret Service is now looking into her comments.

“Another 4 years of this (N-word),” Helms wrote on her Facebook Tuesday night. “Maybe he will get assassinated this term.”

She then took to Facebook to defend herself, according to The Modesto Bee.

"So apparently my post last night about Obama got onto Twitter and Fox 40 came and interviewed me cause apparently a lot of people in Sacramento think I'm crazy and racist. WOW is all I got to say!! I'm not racist and I'm not crazy. just simply stating my opinion.!!!"

Another giant cry-baby CEO, this time it's a local one! I know people who work or worked at this company and they've done quite well over the past 4 years despite getting a similar email in 2008. The CEO also has a gigantic home with a multi-store basement that includes a basketball court. But probably no bowling alley thanks to NOBAMA! mysmilie_373.gif

Subject: The Election

Tomorrow and the events of tomorrow will have an impact not only on the country but on this organization, everyone that works here will be affected either in a positive or negative way depending on the results. Should President Obama lose tomorrow, Windy City Wire employees will see immediate positive changes, things that are being discussed include wage and benefit increases along with an expansion of the work force. Should The President be reelected, things here won’t change much at all, his war on entrepreneurs, successful small businesses and investors will continue, taxes on this business will be increased dramatically, and Obamacare will be fully implemented, increasing the dollars we allocate to health care by tens of thousands of dollars not to mention the countless hours of time we will spend implementing these regulations. The national debt will continue to explode under his leadership, and we will continue to run unsustainable yearly deficits. His reelection means the next four years will be similar if not worse than the past four years, bringing with it a stagnant economy, wages and incomes that do not keep pace with inflation, and medium incomes that continue to drop. Economically speaking, overall all nothing short of disappointments, so tomorrow I ask that you vote for economic growth and fiscal responsibility, not what we have experienced the past four years.

Every two years we have state and local elections, and in case you haven’t realized it yet Illinois is broken and broke, this state is in peril, our elected officials are economic illiterates, our state General Assembly is run is run by the democratic party, and it is time we vote them out of power. The House of Representatives and the Senate have over promised, over spent and over taxed the citizens of Illinois. The taxes they have levied on the business community will continue to drive jobs and growth from our state, this means the citizens of Illinois will continue to see reduced opportunities in the communities they, think about the flight out (population reduction) we have had from our state over the last decade, people and businesses are leaving our state, they are going where the taxes are low and opportunities are abundant. The only way we can keep businesses and families from leaving Illinois is to change the climate and culture, we are on the brink and time is running out to turn this ship around. I urge everyone that works here that when you go the polls tomorrow, VOTE OUT Mike Madigan as Speaker of The House, and John Cullerton as President of the Senate. The only way to remove one or both of these individuals is get enough Republican members elected to the respected chambers this means vote for the senate and house candidate in your district with “R” next to his or her name.

Occupy Wall Street is buying distressed houses and canceling the debt. Finally something actually meaningful. Too bad the government didn't just do that with HAMP or TARP

http://rollingjubilee.org/

WTF do you mean by "finally" something meaningful? same organization that's been doing the bulk of the hurricane cleanup, and has been keeping people from getting evicted from their homes for 6 months

The part of the Voting Rights Act that makes Jim Crow states get any changes to their electoral process approved. It's been utilized numerous times to protect minority voting rights.

seems outdated. the progressive in me thinks that rule should be lifted.

Every time you let states run anything, they f*** it up. These national elections need to have national oversight and legislation to enforce it.

That right there is what's f***ed up about the Union of Socialist Republics, er, I mean the United States of Socalism, er, I mean the United States of America today.

If you want to dismiss the very core of what the Constitution is about, I'll just start calling you comrade.

Times have changed. As time goes on, things become too interconnected to have everyone doing things 51 different ways. I certainly believe that the Constitution, as currently interpreted by the Supreme Court and amended by the USA, is the law of the land. However, as an amendable document, I believe it needs to be changed to suit a changing world or it will just help drag down the country it rules over.

States are good at running debt, f***ing up national elections, withholding civil rights, etc. People hate bureaucracy but the federal-state-local system is like the worst kind of bureaucracy in which no levels care about the directives sent out by the other.

In terms of a topic by topic evaluation, how can you look at this (or others) Presidential election and not see that things need to be made uniform across the states? Obviously the states will have to carry it out, but they need to all be doing things the exact same way with the exact same rules and in a manner that provides an easily countable, trustworthy result. Right now it is a giant clusterf*** that is at least partly influenced by state-local partisanship and the other part caused by mere incompetence.

In Irish hospital, right-to-life even in cases of the life of the mother (and fetus)

She was found to be miscarrying, but doctors repeatedly refused to carry out a medical termination because the foetus's heartbeat was present.

Mr Halappanavar, 34, also claims that after several requests by his late wife for a termination, they were told: “This is a Catholic country.”

Abortion is illegal in the Republic of Ireland..

Below the Line: Poverty in America

Official figures say 46 million Americans live in poverty. Beyond that, there's little about poverty that Americans can agree on

This article investigating poverty in America and what it really is won this month's Sidney Award

The Sidney Hillman Foundation announced today that Jina Moore, regular contributor to the Christian Science Monitor, has won the November Sidney Award for Below The Line: Poverty In America, a portrait of poverty as it is measured by official statistics and lived by real people.

Linda Criswell earns just over $12,000 a year as a full-time childcare worker, but she technically steals fruit from the snack bowl at work because she can't afford to buy her own. She tracks grain prices to see if she'll be able to afford meat in the months ahead. Is she poor? She's poor enough for food stamps, but maybe not poor enough for Medicaid. If you ask Criswell, she'll tell you that--regardless of what the state says--she lives in a state of continual anxiety.

According to the official statistics, 46.2 million Americans live in poverty. Yet, many Americans console themselves with the notion that "real poverty" in the United States has been eliminated.

What does it mean to be poor in the world's richest country? Is it an absolute threshold or a relative concept? Can you measure it in dollars, calories, or PlayStations? Can any statistic capture intangibles like autonomy and dignity? As a journalist who divides her time between New York and East Africa, Moore knows that even the poorest Americans are rich by global standards, but it's difficult to argue that Linda Criswell is getting by.

"Moore's reporting raises important philosophical questions that cut to the heart of our national debate about inequality," said Sidney judge Lindsay Beyerstein.

Lindsey Graham and John McCain continue their Benghazi Meltdown after Obama vigorously defended Susan Rice in his press conference today:

http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2012...ends-susan-rice

The insanity over this has become positively Clintonian. Here's what Susan Rice actually said on the Sunday talk shows a few days after the Benghazi attacks on 9/11:

Earlier in the day, there had been demonstrations in Cairo inspired by a hateful YouTube video.

This in turn appeared to have inspired a "copycat" protest in Benghazi.

That protest was then "hijacked" by extremists, who used it as an excuse to storm the consulate and murder four Americans.

That's it. That's the formulation she used on Face the Nation, Meet the Press, This Week, and State of the Union. She was very cautious, too, emphasizing that an investigation was ongoing and this was the "best information" available at the time. And it was: this was what the intelligence community told her in briefings before she taped those interviews.
