According to that CBS article, the Reds will pay for Griffey's contract. That probably forced the White Sox to give up a good deal more than if they were willing to take on that deal.

After reading the article, it said Griffey wants answers unrelated to his contract. So basically he probably wants to be assured that he won't be a bench player.

A LARGE portion of Griffey's deal with the Reds is deferred from '09 through '26 so it's definitely a good thing that the Reds are picking up the tab.

The Reds are picking up part of the salary as is expected in all Reinsdorf signed-off trades for big ticket guys. The future is probably a double play duo of Ramirez and Beckham with Getz or others in a utility role. So, you're right...not insignificant but certainly not anything that would make me break off talks. Griffey, if he gets hot, can carry this offense for the stretch run and it might be worth the risk of giving up Richar.

haha nice one, on my XM radio they've confirmed the trade as well.

 

I don't mind giving Richar up, 2B/SS is probably our deepest spot in the farm system and I don't see Richar playing too much in the future if he was here.
