In the market for a new laptop, gonna check some ads out. Looking to swap to Hewlett Packard from Dell. Not sure what a good amount of memory and RAM to look for these days.

RAM is memory, and you will want a minimum of 1GB. Check slickdeals.net daily

From what I remember (I've never had one but I know people that have) they are pretty decent.

Just don't get HP. Terrible.

My girlfriend, whose uncle works at hp, has tremendous trouble with hers. Shes had to send it in atleast twice already, shes only had it since the end of summer. She barely does anything on it too. Their customer service sucks too.

I have a Dell, and have been pretty impressed so far.

Dells are great. I have a toshiba hand me down that powers through pretty well.

Most laptops start at 1gig of ram, I wouldn't do much less than 2gig. Likewise, never buy a celeron processor, it's the washington nationals of processors.

and like always, stay off the porn and your laptop will stay clean.

What the hell do you guys do to your laptop? In my experience and in the experience of my friends, a good 5 or 6 that I talk to on a regular basis who have one, they have never ever had problems. As far as Dell, that is by far the worst. Problems left and right, call up their customer service and you either get put on hold or talk to a guy in India. One of my best friends had a Dell, and he took care of his laptop quite nicely. Then over the course of 4 years, his hard drive failed him 3 times. 2 other times, his fan completely stopped working. Now the guy always always makes sure his computer is well-ventilated, and only used it for writing papers and occasional game playing (Roller Coaster Tycoon mostly). Dell flat out sucks.

As far as Vaio's, I have a VAIO laptop and desktop computer. The desktop is about 5 years old, but still kicking strong. The laptop I got about 2 or 3 years ago. It's pretty nice, huge screen and everything. Never had any problems. The only pet peeve you may have is the battery life. Mine sucks donkey balls. I usually only get 20 or 30 minutes, even after turning the volume all the way down, dimming the screen to it's dimmest setting, and not watching any movies or listening to music or playing any games.

I love my HP laptop. Never had a single problem with it.

My other computer at home is a Dell. It's a desktop though. Went through 3 hard drives in the first year of owning it and Dell refused to send out a new machine, instead opting to keep sending me refurbished hard drives.

I just got a new computer here at work. I was using a Micron, which was a beautiful machine but finally got too old. So they gave me a new one.

A Dell.

Not sure if it is the machine that sucks or if they just set it up like a bunch of retarded crack monkeys. I'm thinking it's 50/50.

Do you get better lap top deals around Black Friday or Back to school?

I am thinking of getting a Macbook (mostly because of the vista issue), but I am not sure if I should do it now or wait.

Great question. I'd like to know as well.

Great question. I'd like to know as well.

Maybe Cyber Monday. I dont think you can really go wrong with any of these times, maybe just a couple dollar difference. The biggest thing is that technology will get cheaper, so buying the same laptop now and for back to school for the next academic year will be different.

Plus, from what Ive seen Macbooks dont really go on sale to much anyways. There are a ton of laptop deals out now.

check out:

dealsofamerica.com

They have a bunch of links to laptop deals from Dell, HP, and any stores with sales.

any reason I should wait until after black friday to get my tv?

I'm going LG 32" 32LG30. Solid reviews and I think I can get it for less than 500.

I'm concerned that sales for BF are going to suck and in response retailers are going to cut major prices. thoughts?

I think the best time to buy TVs is right before the Super Bowl (in store lingo, the "Big Game in January"), when merchants try to lure people to spend their gift cards and holiday cash. The deals should be even better this year after lower than usual holiday spending.

Here is the thing about computers. Most of the companies use the same brand components. Dell uses other company's equipment and rebrands it as Dell, alot of other companies do that too. so essentially if you have a Dell laptop break and a Sony laptop break, chances are it is probably the same actual brand of harddrive or whatever that failed. Just stick with a good company with good service an you will be ok.

Most really great workhorse laptops were IBM's for the last several years, although now they are Lenovo's so the jury is still out. I have one for work and its been ok. Computers are basically designed to break, the question is, wht vendor gives you the best chance to fix it.

I agree, IBM is the only computer that has never failed my family.

A Walmart employee in New York was killed and four others injured during the 5am crush to get into a store this morning.

WTF is wrong with people. I mean, I don't even understand the desire to do this sort of thing to begin with.

And get this... one of the injured people was a pregnant woman. What woman in her right mind does something like this while pregnant? How stupid can you possibly be?

And how embarrassing for yourself to be one of these zombies mad-rushing a friggin Walmart at 5am to save a few bucks on something?

Someone needs to explain this to me.

End of explanation.

I call Black Friday "The Running of the Jags".

People stealing s*** out of each other's carts and s*** like that = classless.

It's just not worth it.

Again, thank Al Gore for online shopping - I got my nephew an Iron Man DVD and Robot Chicken Season One DVD for 22 bucks total, and didn't put myself at risk of trampling.
