As much as I hate Puto,I mean Punto, what a great at bat.

You don't need to overswing with 2 strikes, short and sweet, just put the damn ball in play.

Twins at least not embarrassing themselves tonight.

that's the thing, he gets hits and walks when it counts.

Actually Punto has sucked with RISP over the course of his career and his splits for late innings are equally horrible to his splits in the earlier innings. As are his splits in close games as opposed to blow outs.

There is no such thing as clutch, but there is such a thing as a guy who doesn't perform in big spots, and it's hard to argue with the numbers for A-Rod in the 2005, 2006, and 2007 playoffs. IIRC he hit well in the 2000 and 2004 playoffs though, so it's not like he's NEVER done it.

Sounds contradictory.

Not really he is saying that he doesn't believe that guys can perform better in bigger spots but that he does believe they can perform worse in big spots.

That's fair.

Nah. Mediocre players don't become great at important spots (unless it's a small sample size or an EXTREMELY rare case) but good to great players become mediocre in important spots very often. Basically, choking exists but clutch really doesn't. Even a guy like Derek Jeter isn't clutch, he's just really good all the time, and his postseason numbers which are almost identical to his regular season numbers in his career reflect that.
