However, he only has 2 years of MLB service time, so worst case scenario if he can come back in 2011, he'd be arbitration-eligible and under their control for a couple years. He was non-tendered. Usually the year of surgery is gone, plus the year after surgery is spent as a fraction of their former self. It is that third season that pitchers really seem to be able to get back on track.

This is a great move by the Cards. If anyone can save this kid and his miracle curve it's Dave Duncan.

I said it when Cubbie fans were going ape over him his first time through the league, he really needs a far better 3rd pitch, 2nd time around hitters were just sitting on the fastball and taking the curve, he had nothing else working.

If healthy, Hill could win 10 games with them this year. I'm sure they would take that out of their #5
