Why does everyone on ESPN keep saying the "much improved Cubs"?

 

Nothing says much improved like a .196 batting average from your 1B and a pitcher with extreme fly-ball tendacies and HR rates in which you can bunt the ball out of the park when the wind is blowing out. I'd be shocked if Garza didn't sport an ERA of at least 4.50. Everybody thinks there's automatically this dramatic drop with a switch from the AL to the NL. But Garza was aided by one, a tremendous Tampa defense, and a ballpark that suppresses offense. Should be fun to watch.

I think Garza will only regress slightly. I think the AL to NL change will cover most of the park factor.

I take a look at their roster and I dont see improved, I see aging ex-stars, and incredibly shrinking 3B and a weak pitching staff.

Yup. 2009 was indeed an outlier. 30+ HR allowed is pretty much a lock for Garza.

He gave up 28 last year in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. I would be surprised if he didn't give up 35.

Silva was the one pitching before the scuffle. He gave up 6 runs with 3 errors behind him in one inning. That's 12 Es in 3 games & one inning for the Cubs.

Silva is garbage, he's probably done in mlb. What an awful awful contract that was when Seattle signed him.
