2011 Cubs Thread

Why does everyone on ESPN keep saying the "much improved Cubs"?

Nothing says much improved like a .196 batting average from your 1B and a pitcher with extreme fly-ball tendacies and HR rates in which you can bunt the ball out of the park when the wind is blowing out. I'd be shocked if Garza didn't sport an ERA of at least 4.50. Everybody thinks there's automatically this dramatic drop with a switch from the AL to the NL. But Garza was aided by one, a tremendous Tampa defense, and a ballpark that suppresses offense. Should be fun to watch.

I think Garza will only regress slightly. I think the AL to NL change will cover most of the park factor.

I take a look at their roster and I dont see improved, I see aging ex-stars, and incredibly shrinking 3B and a weak pitching staff.

Everyone said the same thing about Ted Lilly and he managed to do alright.

That's cause Lilly had a horse shoe up his ass and pitched at Wrigley with the wind blowing in seemingly every game. When he did pitch with wind blowing out there, it was bombs away.

I looked up his Cubs stats, and I guess I was a bit wrong. He didn't fare that well at Wrigley overall. Except for 2009, when he had 10 horse shoes up his ass.

2007 Home: 3.87 ERA, 123.1 IP, 19 HRs

2007 Road: 3.76 ERA, 83.2 IP, 9 HRs

2008 Home: 4.50 ERA, 90.0 IP, 15 HRs

2008 Road: 3.77 ERA, 114.2 IP, 17 HRs

2009 Home: 1.87 ERA, 91.1 IP, 8 HRs

2009 Road: 4.41 ERA, 85.2 IP, 14 HRs

2010 at Wrigley: 4.28 ERA, 67.1 IP, 14 HRs

2010 Road: 3.89 ERA, 83.1 IP, 12 HRs

Yup. 2009 was indeed an outlier. 30+ HR allowed is pretty much a lock for Garza.

He gave up 28 last year in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. I would be surprised if he didn't give up 35.

Fight in Cubs dugout this afternoon...already. Details coming

I'll go out on a limb and say Zambrano is involved.

Silva was the one pitching before the scuffle. He gave up 6 runs with 3 errors behind him in one inning. That's 12 Es in 3 games & one inning for the Cubs.

apparently it was Silva and possibly Koyie Hill, looks like Z is off the hook this time!

Ha, Silva, pissed you are going back to suckage?

"DRAMA at Cubs Spring Training... Carlos Silva got in a fight in the dugout after the Cubs gave up 6 1ST INNING runs! Silva refuses to comment... "

Is it to soon to start planning my 104 party or do I have to wait for 103 to be official first?

Silva and Ramirez schuffled.

3 errors and 2 3 run homers in teh first.

yup, and this is the franchise that reportedly is getting ready to hand out a potentially franchise crippling contract...

Wait till next year.

LIKE.

Samardzija isn't very good, he hangs far too many pitches. No options and some decent money due to him, so he'll get every last chance

Cashner wins the 5th spot in the rotation, Silva will not make the roster. Cubs will still be on the hook for his $11.5 million salary if they release him.

well, I'll give them credit for making the correct move here.

Hi Oh Silva, Away!

And then he slammed their pitching coach on the way out.

Silva is garbage, he's probably done in mlb. What an awful awful contract that was when Seattle signed him.
