2005 title the only one in the last 15 years "untainted'

An interesting note on PEDs and the 2005 White Sox

Of all the teams to win a World Series since the 1994 strike, the 2005 White Sox were the only one without a single alleged PED user.

The Common Man at The Platoon Advantage responded to the notion that the Red Sox's two World Series titles are tainted because of Manny Ramirez' PED use today and produced this table (click to embiggen).

This isn't license to act high and mighty about the 2005 White Sox being the only clean World Series champion of the last 15 years. Chances are, somebody on that roster—important player or not—was taking some sort of PED. That's just based on the nature of the beast at the time—a lot of players were taking PEDs and while we'd like to believe nobody on the Sox was, it's unlikely that was the case.

Still, it is interesting that the White Sox were the only team to win a World Series in the last 15 years to not have an alleged steroid user on the roster. Important? In the grand scheme of things, probably not. The White Sox won a World Series, and it shouldn't matter whether the team was outwardly clean or not. The same goes for the Red Sox—they won two championships, and just because Ramirez and a few other players may or may not have been on PEDs at the time shouldn't tarnish the accomplishment.

Tony LaRussa?

I'm sure we had a roider on that team. Fun to think that we were completely clean but there's just no way.

Tony LaRussa?

I would guess talking about his alcoholism and DUI, which, I guess, taints them.

I would also say being drunk is a performance enhancer, but not in terms of playing or coaching baseball.

Didn't Pablo get busted?

Didn't Pablo get busted?

Yeah. He got busted for it later.

I refuse to believe that A-row wasnt juicing at some point.

Aaron Rowand?

Yes.

Wasn't Carl Everett named somewhere?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 02:51 PM)
Yes.

LOL, that wasn't a question directed at you. It was a question saying, "How could you call the 05 Sox untainted? Aaron Rowand was on the team? Obivous juicer?"

Sweaty Freddy always seemed like a good candidate to be juicing IMO

Doping, not juicing...

Chris Widger. Why? No real reason. Mainly because I haven't seen his name around these parts in a while. Have to get his name on the site again.

They updated it:

As you can see, every single World Championship that has been won since 1995 has had at least one player who has either been formally accused, or admitted using banned substances, with the exception of the 2005 White Sox (as reader RickG points out in the comments, Pablo Ozuna, a member of the '05 Sox, tested positive in 2009, so officially no World Series winners have been "clean" from 1995-2010).

Weren't Freddy and Jose on the 2003 leaked list?

We got rid of our big roiders after the 2004 season...

Weren't Freddy and Jose on the 2003 leaked list?

The only list that their names appeared on was the false version of the Mitchell Report list that was circulated a few hours before the actual report was released.

There has been no version of the full 2003 list leaked to the press, only individual names thus far.
