July 20, 201114 yr QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Bad overall, relative to payroll, and this isn't adjusted for how good a hitters park we have even, is it? No adjustment, and you are exactly right. We have basically hit like a mid-market baseball club payroll with a major-market payroll. Edited July 20, 201114 yr by maggsmaggs
July 20, 201114 yr QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) Anybody else ready to tip your cap to Bruce Chen again? HYPERBOLE HOW DARE YOU SAY SUCH THINGS
July 20, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Walker has been the Sox hitting coach since 2003, and since then, here are the White Sox rankings in runs scored in the AL: 2003: 791 runs (8th in the AL) 2004: 865 (3rd in the AL) 2005: 741 (9th in the AL) 2006: 868 (4rd in the AL) 2007: 693 (14th and dead last in the AL) 2008: 811 (5th in the AL) 2009: 724 (12th in the AL) 2010: 752 (7th in the AL) 2011: 389 (10th in the AL, on pace for 650 runs) It started out well, but has been bad from 2007 on (with 2008 a good year). Line ups have something to do with it. BTW, the great Rudy Jaramillo, the guy who would make every White Sox hitter a HOFer has the Cubs 9th in the NL in runs. Don Cooper can do no wrong and here's where the pitchers ERA ranked since 2004 when Walker had his first full season as the hitting coach. 12th-2004 2nd-2005 10th-2006 12th-2007 6th-2008 2nd-2009 8th-2010 6th-2011 Edited July 20, 201114 yr by Dick Allen

What percentage of that major market payroll was spent on hitting as compared to pitching? Always seemed like the Sox had more money invested in arms instead of bats.
July 21, 201114 yr But you also have to adjust for those pitching ratings being, from first glance. pedestrian. Same thing with the hitting...playing half the games at USCF. If you do the park-adjusted ratings (baseball-reference), you'll come up with a much different set of comparisons.
July 21, 201114 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) But you also have to adjust for those pitching ratings being, from first glance. pedestrian. Sox pitchers have pitched better at home than on the road.
July 21, 201114 yr This offense is freaking awful. Half the starting lineup doesn't even hit the ball hard enough to score someone from first on a single because outfielders can play so many of our guys so shallow.

Well I was curious about park adjustments so here you go: wRC+ & AL rank from FanGraphs 2003 - 101 6th 2004 - 100 8th 2005 - 94 10th 2006 - 102 4th 2007 - 85 13th 2008 - 101 7th 2009 - 90 12th 2010 - 100 8th 2011 - 90 11th 2008 offense was very average really
July 21, 201114 yr QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:05 AM) Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to Bruce f***ing Chen. Take away his two starts vs the White Sox and he still somehow has an ERA of 3.77
July 21, 201114 yr QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to Bruce f***ing Chen. Duffman the day before, I'll say he was solid. Bruce Chen? Yeesh
July 21, 201114 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) Take away his two starts vs the White Sox and he still somehow has an ERA of 3.77 When did he turn into Jaime Moyer?
August 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 05:05 AM) Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to Bruce f***ing Chen. And Phil Hughes.
August 3, 201114 yr I'm honestly convinced that even if Ozzie AND Kenny are fired after this season, Greg Walker will somehow be our hitting coach in 2012. He's bulletproof!

He's bulletproof! If this front office (at least the coaching staff) isn't completely overhauled I'll probably get thrown out of Camelback Ranch at least 3 times this spring. I'll be the biggest asshole out there...guaranteed!

August 19, 201114 yr With how many hitters get on the Sox roster, and regress, how does this clown still have a job? Unreal.

August 19, 201114 yr Ranger talking about Beckham having to work on his swing in the offseason....can't do it now. So that's Dunn, Rios, and Beckham that have offseason projects. This team is a joke from top to bottom.
