Partly. My dad doesn't follow sports

Reminds me of my story. Back when I was a kid I had to self teach myself about American sports. In 3rd grade I started watching the Sox and the Oakland Raiders. Both teams were on TV a lot. The year? 1983.

I voted for the I don't want to think about it option. I'm old enough that I remember when the White Sox nearly did move. I remember too the Sox playing "home games" in Milwaukee (ugh). Those were bleak days to be a Sox fan, lemme tell you. I sat many a day watching the Sox at Comiskey amongst a "crowd" of 1,000 to 2,000 fans. I went to a double-header when there was LESS than 1,000!

I'm old enough to remember the Chicago Packers/Zephyrs of the NBA. When they moved to Baltimore and became the Bullets (now the Washington Wizards) I remained a fan until the Bulls came along. Side note: I went to the very first Bulls home game at the International Amphitheater.

Since I'm not in the Chicago area it would be easier for me to remain a fan of the Sox if they moved since now I only get to see them when they come to Seattle anyway. But in this day and age with the ability to see all/any major league game via things like mlb tv i(not to mention Soxtalk!) t's far easier to remain a fan of a team even if you aren't nearby to go to home games.

If I were in Chicago still and this happened there is no way in hell I could switch allegiance to the Cubs. That could NEVER happen.

yeah and those are upper deck seats where only the finest that Chicago has to offer tend to sit..

Not sure if this is a shot at the people that sit there or what, but if that's what you can afford then I don't see an issue with it.

As soon as the Cubs had a winning, playoff team, former Sox fans would be backing the blue pinstripes in droves, if any of them would still alive.

Yeah, I'm also a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan (because of Montana, I was a 49ers fan first) and was a Sonics fan. Only local-"ish" team I root for is UConn. People always laugh but when you're not influenced by someone and are living in Europe, well, it's gonna happen

I have no real loyalty to Chicago (I'm never moving back), but the Sox moving to another city would still piss me off. I suppose that I would probably be a much more casual baseball fan and might follow my second-favorite team (the Cardinals) a little more.

I'd become a full time Angels fan.

Just a little food for thought today.

I'll give you guys multiple answer options.

This almost happened a few times since 1968.

Even though you are correct I do not want to think about it. No chance now anyway do you agreee?

Well...I mean, I'm already 700+ miles away from the team I support steadfastly.....

If they moved, maybe I'd actually get to see some games in person for once.

If there is new ownership in the next 15 years and the ownership wants a newer park in the next 25, who knows?

I've watched about 6 hours of NBA basketball since the Sonics were stolen. I'm done with the NBA until they get a team again. If OKC wins the NBA title this year I think I'll probably get sick.

If something similar happened with the Sox I would not support that team, but I wouldn't give up the sport the way I did there. I've always kind of followed the Marlins so either I'd become a legit fan or I'd stay local and probably start rooting for the Mets.

haha me too man. my bro's a mets fan so I'm pretty sure that's what I'd do too.

Cards

I would lean towards this route as well.

Unless they moved to Florida, I would stop following them.

Over the past couple of years, I've found myself losing more and more interest in baseball and the Sox. I have no idea why really either. I've never been a guy who watched any baseball game that was on tv but I always atleast watched the highlight shows. Now I cant even bring myself to do that.

I've always been jealous of those who live in MLB cities where they can see their team everyday on tv and hear about them on sports radio daily too. Maybe I should give the Rays a shot since they are on tv here daily and I can pick up Tampa sports radio(which is 10x then Orlando sports radio).

It's called getting older. :lolhitting

Seriously, I can relate to some points.

Ever since 2005, there's a little part of me that says "I saw my team win it all, and really why watch anymore?"

I'm guilty.

Then there's the most part of me that says "Because you're born on 26th and Wallace back in 73 and you saw your first baseball games versus Detroit in 77, and you met Chet Lemon in 79 and YOU WERE HOOKED FOR LIFE."

Being out of state, it doesn't help, especially living in a town where Houston is 3 hours driving away, and Arlington is about 4. And, raising a family too takes up your time, blah blah blah....

Wait, maybe it is getting older. Crap.

Well back to my point, can't even THINK about if the Sox move away or if they are ever retracted for any reason. If they do for either, then I will watch a game or two once in a while and see plenty of UT or Texas State baseball as I live right behind their stadium here in San Marcos.

That's brutal. Horrible. Then you were never a fan to begin with. 2005 is what has made me pyscho (not sure if I spelled that correctly).

Whoever said that it's way different for a lone fan to have to move away versus a sports franchise to leave its hometown is 1000000% correct.

The White Sox could move next door to me and they would mean nothing to me because they would no longer be my hometown team, my Chicago White Sox.

No ifs, ands, or buts.

I would probably follow the Rays more closely, but mostly I would feel a sense of betrayal so deeply that the game would never mean as much to me again.

The "I'm a bigger fan because I joined Soxtalk before you did" route?

This is the closest thing for me too.

It's funny, moving out of an area where I can regularly see White Sox baseball, how quickly I forget about the actual sport. Because my access is limited, its easy to just sort of forget about it sometimes. When I lived closer to Chicago, I watched a lot more... but now my access is limited to online box scores most of the time. If I lived in Chicago and the Sox moved out of state, I'd probably feel the same way. I might still be a fan, but out of sight - out of mind is the most likely answer.
