Have the Sox taking H.S. OF'er Albert Amaro. Others around that pick are

Hunter Virant LHP H.S.

Mike Zunino C Florida Atlantic U.

Addison Russell SS H.S.

Trey Williams 3B H.S.

Trey Williams has very impressive bat speed.

Thoughts?

What's the most risky pick, because that will be it. Is there a football player on that list?

Trey Williams is the son of former Sox third baseman Eddie Williams. Eddie Williams, man that is a name from the past.

I would love to grab a stud SS early on. Or a stud pitching prospect, possibly someone who slides that wants lots of green.

Funny man, Jas.

Or any stud prospect.

I am going to go KLaw on this one. When was the last time the Sox took a HS player in the first round? 2000? I think it will be a safe bet college arm, Brian Johnson.

It was 2001 so ha! And the Sox don't take safe bet arms anymore. McCulloch was 5 years ago.

Fixed.

Lance McCullers. There's a name I remember hearing like 2-3 years ago.

Fixed.

I don't get it. The 'safe' arms everyone refers to were pitchers with good control and multiple pitches, but low velocity fastballs. With Poreda and Sale the Sox took high velocity arms with a lot of talent. That stigma should be gone by now.

Meaning safe picks ended up busting real hard, thus, weren't safe.

Touche. Poreda busted as well, but the Sox sold on the high with him. Not that Peavy has been a good return but...

Kris Honel, 2001.

I was wondering if Kenny had another son...

Kenny is already trying to figure out how to get rid of the pick.

At least at this point, it looks like the pick is protected if KW signs some free agent.......

Correct. Right now we are # 14 going into Tuesday's action. If we win the last two, Kenny might yet have a chance to get rid of it.

Just read the Moneyball article in SI; Boston and Epstein a bit ahead of the curve, and they stockpiled draft choices, whereas Kenny gives them away for guys like Dunn.

Be nice if the Sox lost one of their two remaining games to lock up a top 15 pick.

Top 15 picks are protected right? That could be huge.

Yes and definitely.

Draft slot isn't looking so hot if the Sox keep winning. Cinci, Cleveland, and Toronto (obviously) losing at the moment. Washington tied. Possible for the Sox to fall from the 13th pick to 17th if they win today and tomorrow.

Sox winning at wrong time...Cubs losing at the perfect time to improve their stock.

I still don't care about MLB draft order outside of the first few picks.

Could be dicey if we win Wed (which means Toronto loses) and Cleveland loses. Then it depends on tiebreakers, but if we fall out of the bottom 15, Kenny figures to give away the pick.
